killed T34 engine from straight-on frontal shot - with film
« on: April 23, 2009, 06:42:29 PM »
Here's a clip where I was attacking a v-base.  I heard this T34 come out of the hangar and somehow missed seeing him, until he'd fired a round at me which missed.  I aimed at him and fired a round from about straight-on, straight into his front glacis plate.

He starts smoking.  I'm thinking great, I got his turret.  Then he fires a round and kills my turret.  It then takes him several more rounds to finish me off, but I'm helpless, and eventually die.

In talking to the other guy after the fact, in fact my first round into him killed his engine.  This is why he was smoking.

In order to kill the engine in this tank, my round would have had to have entered through the front glacis plate, travel through the main crew compartment (probably killing everyone on the way through), and then go out through the back of the crew compartment into the engine compartment.

Anyhow, here's the film that shows this.

T34 takes glacis plate hit - loses engine

You can actually hear his engine go out after my shot too, in the film.

I just watched the film. Your shell doesnt hit the glacis plate at all:

You shoot right through the turret ring between hull & turret, and the shell ended up in the raised part of the engine compartment just behind the turret.

Ok, thanks Lusche.  I'd never watched the film from the POV of the other tank, and from my tank it looked like a glacis plate hit.

Anyhow, it's still a bug.  That turret ring hit should have killed the tank.  Apparently it passed right through without registering, until hitting that raised part of the engine on the back side.

I've had other incidents in the past, which I hadn't filmed, where I would swear to God I had a round pass right through a tank's turret ring without registering a hit, and the other guy then killed me.  In those cases the round impacted the ground well beyond the other tank, and so it just looked like a miss that happened to go right through the freaking turret ring.

Hmm.  Well, anyhow, there's a bug here.  Shots through the turret ring should kill the tank, not pass right through like this.

Thanks for pointing out the actual point of impact, Lusche.
