P47s tests for Pyro
« on: March 01, 2001, 09:44:00 PM »
Following Zigrat's post I redid the tests I did "at the time". I took a P47, light ammo loading, 25% fuel, 1 DT. I dove from 9k to 5k, let the airspeed bleed and droped the fuel tank and wait couple secs for the speed to stop moving. The I kick the Wep till it exausts.

Did same in P47-D30 and D25.
Tested in the MA.

Put Wep on till Wep run out, then picture:

I still don't have the 15 MPH increase in perf with the Wep. I recalled pointing that out at the time at Pyro, and he answered he "checked it and it was ok". So it may be something weired on my machine only. Feel free to make the tests on your side and publish the numbers, I would appreciate it.

For the 300HP diff, they look "shy" but I'm not a FM king, I trust HTC for the right computations.

Wep off speed looks right on, Wep on looks "asmahtic"

Great tests Frenchy!

However, I'm a bit confused.

What do you mean by "when WEP empty"?  You mean that's the speed after you burned WEP level at 5k for 5 min and snapped the picture right before it ran out?  The first picture is your best level speed with no WEP I presume.

Still, I think it's obvious that something isn't the way it should be.  I'll try to run some tests and confirm your results.  I'll run mine in the TA where the gas doesn't burn.

a P-38 with both wingtips missing headed down at a 30 degree angle at 500 mph with white smoke streams trailing from both stumps is a horrifying yed oddly beautyful sight.
