The only time I use independant throttle is to recover from a spin.  I manually choose the engine I want to kill, say 2 cntrl 2, recover, control E to switch back to both.

Gald your having fun in the 38, I love it.

I really do not see the 38 as a big of a magnet as it's portrayed.  Maybe newer guys think it's an easy kill, however those in the know tread softly.

Good Luck to you

I'm always wary of a 38 in the area.

:lol ... The fact everyone and their mother dive in on you for an easy kill is what makes it a blast.  Once you get your overshoots down you wont want to leave it.

As for high cons eating you alive...... once you get your ride figured out you'll prefer cons being higher than you. It makes for some fun fights.

shreck, if you take anything out of this thread it should be what these guys said. Once you can make someone miss (which I'm sure you're good at making people overshoot allready) You can take anything on, no matter what/how high it is.

Why would someone ask you for help when they can easily approach one of us dedicated P-38 flyers with far more experience for help, especially when we are not reluctant to share what we know?
ack-ack

And I agree with this...No offense to you Barko; it's just your style, but people seem to be too dedicated to a certain side and aren't willing to help out the "enemy". The way I see it is - the more people learn, the better and better the fights get...what this game is all about.

I must say, the more I use it the more fun it is becoming. It can be quite an amazing performer. The only down side I see is every hordling goes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of there way to try and pik it, to the extent of flying thru multiple possible tagets just to try and HO or pik that barn door your flying!!  Always good for some laughs :aok
Anyway I was getting quite bored with the game, now the fun has returned just a bit  :salute

Oh! any of you hard core 38 pilots use independent throttle control, and if so does it help much ?

Other people have already said this, but I'll restate it for emphasis.

Independent throttle is not really worth the hassle while you're in the fight. Once you're out of the fight, though, whether it's due to damage or lack of targets, it can be a great help. It can help you manage fuel, manuever on the runway, etc.

When it becomes really advantageous to have, as Del already said, is when you lose a wing to damage. If you completely throttle back the engine opposite of the wing you lost (if you lose the right wing, cut the left engine), it can help you get home. It won't work every time, but it works often enough to be worth the trouble of having it mapped. You should also be dropping flaps and giving opposite rudder when you lose a wing.

Have fun flying with a giant "shoot me" sign as your icon!

P38's are dangerous if flown properly, when i fight them i use extreme caution in case the pilot knows what he is doing

No truer statement has ever been made.  That being said, the 38 drivers continue to have fun not knowing what they are doing! :D

Every time I get in a 38, its like a magnet and its kind of hard to see if you like something when your constantly out numbered or it seems that way, "Look there's Cajunn in a 38 lets get him first". So I use it in the attack role only and I drop my ords and get shot down by the Wirby, and so on. And after the kills I have seen Shreck get in it for the last couple of nights, I don't think he needs any pointers  :D.

Away from the fight you have plenty of time to press shift+1 or 2 and adjust individual rpms for damage control. Spins on the other hand are few and far between but you might have time to shift+1 or 2 or you might not.
