Flew with Eagle quite often in the early days as well.  My condolences to his family.

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee
No 412 squadron, RCAF
Killed 11 December 1941

Bleah... his "Attention to Detail" will be missed. Noone will be able to replace his ability to keep us informed about the 327th's standings'; in the FSO's...

It sucks to think I, we, never had a chance to say good-bye to him. I think he probably did this on purpose.

I have been missing his, as Gooss so eloquently put it, "...his long winded explanations of the obvious..." he used to drive me crazy with these! But only as an elder brother; I wish I could have had the chance to explain to him how much I actually enjoyed his rambling nature and company in the virtual skies...

<Salute> Sir!

Never forget his tenacity!

He was one in a million, and I'll miss him as well  :cry

Actually, Eagle doesn't need to "keep it level, greasy side down" any more.

Hail Fellow Pilots!

I regret to inform you that our friend and long time fellow pilot Eagle passed away on Tuesday, April 28th.  Eagle was the 327th Steel Talons Group Executive Officer.  Eagle died from an infection that was contracted after a recent colon surgery.  He was 78.  In our non-virtual world Jim "Eagle" Delaney was a career Naval Aviator during 1950's, 60's and 70's.  Jim was a rare pilot in his day as he was a Non-Commissioned Flight Officer, an uncommon commodity in modern times.  Jim leaves behind several children and grandchildren and was preceded in death by his wife Joan who went to our Lord on August 9, 2007.  They were married for 53 years.  To view some of Eagle's photos go here: http://www.327th.com/pilot_profile/eagles-photoalbum.htm

In honor of Eagle's friendship and life the 327th Steel Talons will host a memorial missing man flight.  Look for further detail in a future post that will announce the Date/Time/Location of this memorial.  All are welcome to join.

Farewell Eagle! You will be missed!

Peace to his family and friends.
May the celebration of his reunion to his wife of 53 years make his passing easier on those he left behind.
