Grills, mowing & remote controls are mans work
« on: May 01, 2009, 10:20:31 AM »
I accidentally hit something on my remote control and disabled the sound on my tv. :(  Been fiddling with the thing for a long while & can't restore it.  Hate this crap.

Some remotes don't have words on them, just symbols.

Look for a button with a speaker-looking type thing.

Or cycle through your input devices.

Also, if you have a universal remote, be sure you hit the 'TV' button first, so you're not sending signals to the cable box, vcr, dvr, microwave, or whatever else device you may have nearby.

Nope, not the mute button. It's something with the internal sound settings, not the mute.  My sons are in school, otherwise yes, I'd had it over to them.

This is a What Not To Wear emergency.  :lol  I've already missed half of the new episode!  Crap, it's even ruining potential napping time since it's now too quiet to sleep.

I did already try to reboot it, or whatever you call it when you unplug everything & plug it all back in.  Stupid tv.

I have told my girlfriend several times the remote is domain of the man.  Maybe now she will believe me.  But then again, she also thinks she can drive  :O

Is your cable box hooked up to a receiver?   Maybe you switched the sound source on the receiver, or shut it off by mistake.

If the cable box is hooked up direct to the tv with a coaxial cable then i'm not sure what it could be.

Assuming you don't have a home theater setup, but rather just a TV attached to an anttena or cable........You may have hit the SAP (second audio programing) button..... Or..... There may be a remote function to turn the speakers from internal to external.  Try going into the menu and then look for and enter audio set up. Look at any options and hopefully refering to your owners manual, make sure things are set for "normal" operation.

Knowing exactly what you have would help in narrowing a solution down.

Yeah, it's linked directly in there. The remote is specifically for the cable, but has the capability of switching to the tv settings.  I tried both within the cable menu and the television menu on the sound options.  I moved around the sound sources, tried resetting to default, checked the speaker settings, etc.

Finally I decided to just turn on the tv in another room & turn it up to hear the sounds.  As soon as I could hear the background noise I fell asleep. Now that it's almost lunchtime I'm going to just dump the problem onto txdad. I'm sure he'll be thrilled that I've screwed something up that he has to fix before watching the news. :)

You might have just changed the channel on the TV (rather than the cable box).

Funny thread title...and then read your post...been pushing lots of buttons to fix it?  lol  That is what my wife does...right before she hands it to me or one of the kids to fix it.
