Love IT, but there were only 116 built, so we may never see it :(

I would love the whirlwind, it was highly regarded by it's pilots.  I find it hard to justify it's inclusion given it had little impact during the war.  I wonder how the aircraft would have turned out if the RAF developed it further.

Heck, even Merlin engines would have made it Uber!

Love the idea, though :aok

The basic feature of the Whirlwind was its concentration of firepower: its four closely-grouped heavy cannon in the nose had a rate of fire of 600 lb./minute which, until the introduction of the Beaufighter, placed it ahead of any fighter in the world. Hand in hand with this dense firepower went a first-rate speed and climb performance, excellent manoeuvrability and a fighting view hitherto unsurpassed. The Whirlwind was, in its day, faster than the Spitfire down low and, with lighter lateral control, was considered to be one of the nicest "twins" ever built From the flying viewpoint, the Whirlwind was considered magnificent.

The greatest twin engine fighter that never was... :cry

I would have loved to seen the full potential of this bird, but it wasnt to be. Replaced by the Typhoon.

Could you imagine this bad boy with two Napier Sabre (tempest) engine.

This is not correct,it saw active service at squadron strength so therefore should qualify for inclusion! The 152 had fewer built and it's in game. :aok

How many C-Hogs were produced before the end of the war?

How many C-Hogs were produced before the end of the war?

"F4U-1C:The prototype F4U-1C, BuNo50277, appeared in August 1943 and was based on an F4U-1. 200 of this variant were built from July through to November 1944: all were based on the F4U-1D and were built in parallel with that variant.[71] Intended for ground-attack as well as fighter missions, the F4U-1C was similar to the F4U-1D but its armament was replaced by four 20 millimetres (0.79 in) AN/M2 cannons with 231 rpg[96] of ammunition. The F4U-1C was introduced to combat during 1945, most notably in the Okinawa campaign. Aviators preferred the standard armament of six .50 in (12.7 mm) machine guns since they were already more than powerful enough to destroy most Japanese aircraft, and had more ammunition and a higher rate of fire.[97] The weight of the Hispano cannons and their ammunition affected the flight performance, especially its agility, but the aircraft was found to be especially potent in the ground attack role."

You think the modeling is flawed in the game because the C fly's just like the D to me?
