I read a few books on Joachim, this one I think is one of the best. I'm a huge fan of WWII fighter pilots and their tactics, mainly the luftwaffe pilots. I've spent a lot of time researching Joachim and his tactics. I found it really helpful in AWI and it still prove very useful in AHII. I read one of the book where it explain the way he approach and his aiming methods. It took a while to see what the author means, but once I get the way he was describing it make a lot of sense. I'm suprise it works even in AHII. The majority of my sorties I would have 250-300 cannons rounds left in D9, w/ 10 in the bags and forced to RTB due to low on fuel. Which average out about 10-20 rounds fired per kill, not countin probably 3-5 assist w/ those 10.
By the way, Joachim still maintain the most impressive record for ariel combat. Averaging 15 MG rounds per kill. In a short 12 months time frame, he scored 150+ victories against the British and American. Where other such as Hartmann took 2-3 years to reach that number, and it was mainly against the Soviet. Sadly, Joachim died in a none combat related accident. So for those of you who love to read about dogfight tactics, I really recommend this book for ya.
