Wasn't limited base capture the final straw that killed of FA?
I'm only talking about having it in one of the two LW arenas, while the other would be overall conquest of the map.
Right now you have EW with low numbers, MW with low numbers, and the two LW arenas. You could probably eliminate the EW and MW arenas, as in the end I think the idea was to promote a different fight. MW can have some good fights, but I'd believe those guys would end up in the limited capture arena where air combat is more the focus, while the guys who like to grab bases would be in the other conquest of the map arena.
It's really a division of the two most vocal groups. Nothing stopping from bouncing to either arena then, and no reason to gripe. Tough to blame the furballers if they are in another arena duking it out and tough to blame the base takers for ruining the fight if there is nothing to ruin.
Let two communities develop within the overall game of AH. Most of us could probably name the squads that would go to either arena so you know you'd have both populated right away. I'd like to think more squad to squad rivalries would develop, in particular in an air combat environment where you know sneaking a base isn't going to happen or there is any motivation to go around a fight to try and win the map.
That's not mean to be a criticism of the guys who want to win the war btw. They'd be hard at it in the other arena and there'd be no reason to criticize it as winning he war would be the goal.
Thinking about it a bit more. It would probably promote more high alt combat since the tactial part of the airwar would be less emphasized in a limited capture arena. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I know guys have talked about birds like the 152 or even the 51 and Jug that were built for combat higher up. I'm on the deck most of the time, so they'd never see me, but it might change the nature of some of the air combat. Whens the last time anyone ran a fighter sweep looking for another group of fighters?
