Aren't they made in Australia?

Yup.  That's why even with Pontiac going away, there should still be spare parts.  Not too many parts are Pontiac-specific.  So far the only problem part has been the passenger side windshield wiper, because it's about 11 inches long due to the wipers originally going the opposite way.  Rather than re-work the whole thing, they just reversed the motors/arms and put on weird sized blades.   They clear the windshield just fine but the short blade is hard to find.

Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

You can still get your discontinued Oldsmobile serviced at any GM dealer... Parts are available. GM will continue to honor all Pontiac warranties and maintain all required parts for years to come. This is now guaranteed by the Feds for all new car sales by GM and Chrysler.

Yup the feds... which means us. All americans, including yourself will pay money to be sure they get their parts.  The feds have no money, it is all generated by taking ours.

 :huh

They make the manufacturer do this.  If the company goes under, it's probably wrapped up in the bankruptcy proceedings or subcontracted/licensed out to someone who can make a profit selling the parts.

just a little pic of our version

I have had a few comodores now some mine some work, the earliest was 1984 the latest was 2000 and I would by another anytime. You guys should never have a problem with parts as it is Australias leading selling family size car. You picked a winner, you may find yourself saving up for the 7ltr 2 door, now thats a car.

I sure hope they send out the Holden version almost as-is, with chevy badges.  That's a chevy almost anyone I know would consider buying.

As for a 2-door, I HAD a 2-door I was really happy with.  The only thing that makes me a bit grumpy is that the base model camaro's engine has some 40hp on the G8 GT.  Dumb.  If I hadn't already decided on the G8, knowing that they'd intentionally crippled the G8 GT vs. the camaro would make me consider an alternative brand.  If GM won't sell me the car I want because they want to make some other car I don't want more attractive, then of course I'll go somewhere else to buy.  The camaro gets the active cylinder management gadget with 400hp, so there seems to be no freaking reason why they couldn't have put that motor in the G8 GT.  The G8 GXP gets 400+hp, but with the short gearing and without being able to turn off half the motor at freeway cruise, it gets worse gas mileage than some rather large trucks.  Double-dumb.

Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Enjoy the new car Eagl, getting a new car that excites you to drive is a great thing, and with your service and sacrifices given to our country, you deserve it.

or you could do the smart thing, and take your car to a private repair shop....once the warranty is done......and for your regular maintenance. there, you'll get it worked on by someone that actually knows how to fix it.

dealer techs aren't what they're cracked up to be...at least not for the money it costs at a dealer.

Agreed.... I've been to a dealer once and it was a terrible experience.

Never again.

They just get apprentices on the tools, so you've got 17 year old kids pulling your engine apart.

No thanks.

Ford's XR6 Turbo will go a long way toward changing that, I reckon.

I come from a Holden family.... I drive a Ford and I guess I'd call myself a Ford man (though, I'd buy a Holden if it was a better car).... at the moment, and ever since the B series Falcon was introcuded, Ford make a better car.

The Aussie I6 is an icon and it's a shame that more people refuse to get over their one-eyed Holden garbage.

.........The amount of SV6s I see on the road..... XR6T kills it in every way.

/this here gentlemen is the great Aussie Ford v Holden debate. It has been going on for a heck of a long time (before I was born and I'm now 41). Its the thing that makes Aussie V8 supercar racing the grand spectacle it is with two firmly devided camps.Xasthur and I could argue the point from our perspective camps over a carton of beer and both of us still walk away unconvinced of the others argument, if arch is reading this he will hardly be able to hold himself back from answering, its the nature of things here and makes for some very competitive racing both off and on the track.

That is very true. I've always been a fan of the underdog, though, so Ford suits me.

I learnt to sideways in my old man's VX Commodore S (Supercharged 6).... That was fun. That was a great car to drive.... I'd take that over the Ford equivalent of the time, for sure.

I just think that Ford makes a better car at the moment. Ever since the BA Falcon came out, Ford have been in front (on the road and on the track  :aok). Holden don't need to push themselves as hard because they have that 'true blue Aussie' crowd. The sort that cried and wailed when Lowndes 'defected' to Ford.

I wouldn't buy an inferior car just because it had the badge I preferred on it. I'd have no problem with driving a Holden if it was a better car for the money.

Pics taken next to my firebird.  Although the pics show them essentially the same color, the G8 is a bit "redder".  Next to a ford or mazda "red", my firebird looks a bit orange actually.
