"Dakota Kid II"
« on: May 05, 2009, 07:55:12 PM »
My workplace is right under the flight pattern of the local airport where an Army National Guard Aviation unit is based so aircraft and helicopters are flying over us all day.  I had parked a vehicle in the main parking lot and was walking back to the warehouse when I heard that distinct sound of a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine (if you've ever heard one, you'll never forget it). Looking up, there she was, gleaming, with her D-Day stripes and yellow cowl and rudder, the "Dakota Kid II", roaring overhead.  Made my whole day!  Check out this video about her, hope you like it!

How is it that it appears that there are several other P-51's in the background?  Does the NG still fly P-51's?  What airport it this?

This photo of the "Dakota Kid II" is at an airshow.  The Dakota Kids home is in Bismarck, ND and the local National Guard units fly Hueys, Blackhawks, and Jet Rangers.

Ok - that explains it.  I was gettin' excited to go to an airfield that had so many Mustangs in one place . . . .

How about 70+ Mustangs at once?

Gathering of Mustangs in 07 had to be the all time BEST airshow I have been to.
Gorgeous airplanes, and perfect weather.  The ONLY complaint to be had was traffic getting into the show.  Don't think that was planned to well, but the wait was WELL worth it!
