Umm, they were German, not Nazi.  Neither the planes nor the pilots belonged to the Nazi party.

I'm assuming that you have seen that picture with a caption before, right?

Could anyone tell if it was a G10 without knowing it from a previous caption?  And how would you know? And how could you know who flew it without being told in a caption?

Not trying to be an ass, I'm just curious, if there is some distinguishing characteristics, I'd like to know what they are.

Yes, I've seen this photo captioned  ;) (this photo is owned by the pilot himself).

The details are the chin bulges and the enlarged wing bulges for main wheels. This reduces the variety to G-14/ASs, G-10s and K-4s.

This could only be a G10. Well 99.9% sure it could only be a G10. There are a few specific details that virtually eliminate it being a K4 or a G14/AS. For example I know for sure this plane has a 20mm cannon and not a 30mm one.  :)

Prein and Rodeike has the following caption.
blah blah
"Clearly visible are the chin bulges, deep oil cooler" blah blah

The Deep oil cooler on this picture is associated with the DB605D and rules out any g6 or g14. It has to be either a g10 or K4.

The picture I have shows the absence of wheel well doors but they were not always fitted on the K4 and were often removed apparently.

The only conclusive view that you are seeing a k4 vs a G10 is from the side were you can see the different location of the access hatch on the side. Of if you see wheel well doors you know its a K4

If GH knows by the size of the shell ejection hole that it is a 20mm vs 30mm that would weigh it towards a G10.
I assume that they knew the werk number to identify it positivly as a G10 or they went with a high probability because of the 20mm and the db605d engine. Or the Pilot told them. From what I see it could be either but is probably a G10.
