HT how realistic is this...........
« on: May 09, 2009, 10:35:33 AM »
my biggest pet peeve with the game is this...... planes flying with 1/2 wing missing

now i know there were a 'few' planes in WWll that managed to make it home in that condion BUT.....

explain how for 1 instance a spit16 can dive out from 15k level on deck & run home with 1/2 wing gone. another P38 diving out 1/2 wing gone & recovering run home. of course all the f4s. 190 1/2 wing gone & stay in the fight & get the kill. there are many other instances 190s f4s spits out running with 1/2 wing missing. guys say easy with a notch of flaps but these guys r to fast to do that.

when engaged with multible apponents you would think it safe to move on to the next target after blowing off a wing tip but in this game it seems not so.

i fly only 2 planes really 110s & niki now ive never experienced any control what so ever once wing tip is missing. infact the 110 barely stays in the air with an eleron missing let alone a wing tip.

u would think if they could manage to stay up it would take alot of work with flight surfaces = slow speed but most can still maintain a good speed.

anyways thats my gripe for the week! lets get reall!!!!!!!!!

OK.... next time your shot down just cancel your account as "you are dead". That would be more realistic.

Visually it might look like a half wing is missing due to graphic limitations HT has to use. But damage
wise he might be only missing a wing tip.

Ehhh you might be right about that, but i have landed a 1/2 winged F4U on a CV with gear and tail hook not that hard. I've also done it with a 109K4, Dora, and 190A5. Depending on the wing that's missing it can be very manageable if you use the engine torque, trim, and a lot of rudder.

I read an account from 1 of the well known P-51 drivers that he got latched on with a 109 and they went back and forth. He finally got behind him and fired a burst that took off 2 or 3 feet of the 109's wing tip...the 109 reversed as soon as he started to hit and continued the fight which ended when the pony driver dove into a cloud and headed for home...so even IRL that type of stuff did happen.

Man, haven't you ever watched Star Trek? When the hull is breeched, you simply engage a force field and it's just like new. :D

Always wondered why they even bother with a hull...  Why not one big force field bubble or something?   :aok

Because force fields require lots of power and to create a force field that big would prevent you from charging your phaser banks or your photon torpedoes. And any Starfleet commander knows that losing your weapons in the middle of a fight is a bad thing. It's all about energy management for your starship, and sheesh you'd think a cartoon ww2 fighter pilot would know something about E management.
