Is that the total of #1 votes? Or the number of votes total for each aircraft, in any position?

Those are only the number one votes, and I still say there are plenty of ways to cut it:

(1) straight popularity:
Dora, Ta152, Spit XIV

(2) One variant per A/C type:
Dora, Spit XIV, P-51H

(3) One variant per air force:
Same as (2) here.
But if you sample the votes differently, such as by all three votes (then weighted or unweighted), you'll get all kinds of interesting results.

Hey, why not count up all the #3 votes?

It would be intersting to see the results as a total of votes, period - regardles of #1,2 or 3 choiuce- for each aircraft and then a tally of votes for each as the No 1 plane, the No2 and No 3.

If I get time tomorow I'll try that.

i am kind of confused because i think some A/C in there are perk and others arent

i dont think the Spit XIV is more perk than the N1K2 or the Dora and i dont think any 3 of those a/c should be perk.

to me, only 1945 aircraft are perk (mabye say after summer 1944 would be better)where 1944 aircraft should not earn perk points if flown, and 1943 aircraft should be the perk earners. and who flies 1942 aircraft?

Current score is, as of BigJoe's post, not counting Soup Nazi, Hairball, tied choices, choices not on the list or any 4th+ choices, as follows:

P-47M 20

P-47N 16

P-51H 34

Fw 190D-9 96

Fw 190F-8 42

Ta 152H-1 59

Tempest V 62

Spitfire XIV 67

F4U-4 29

La-7 54

Yak-9UT 40

And the score, weighted by choice number (1st pick gives 3 points, 2nd pick gives 2 points and 3rd pick gives 1 point), as of BigJoe's post, not counting Soup Nazi, Hairball, tied choices, choices not on the list or any 4th+ choices, is as follows:

P-47M 49

P-47N 29

P-51H 81

Fw 190D-9 215

Fw 190F-8 72

Ta 152H-1 121

Tempest V 111

Spitfire XIV 138

F4U-4 67

La-7 89

Yak-9UT 70

Be your own judge as to which system you like better.

It seems that the two systems don't quite match on results.

The top 3 choices are, by scoring system, as follows:

Going through the unweighted results it seems the Fw190D-9 is in an unasailable 1st place, clearly the favored choice.  Next is the Spitfire MkXIV which holds onto its position in 2nd place.  The Tempest MkV has managed to displace the Ta152H-1 and is now in 3rd place.

Unweighted Score:
Fw190D-9: 96
Spitfire MkXIV: 67
Tempest MkV: 62

The results look more familar when we pay attention to their choice positions.  The list of weighted results begins, once again, with a VERY dominant Fw190D-9 in 1st place.  The Spitfire MkXIV continues to slowly extend its lead over the 3rd place finisher and is in 2nd place.  The Ta152H-1 demonstrates that people marked it as a higher choice, on average, than the Tempest MkV and continues to hold 3rd place.

Weighted Score:
Fw190D-9: 215
Spitfire MkXIV: 138
Ta152H-1: 121

If you use the "one variant per base aircraft" rule, you get Dora, Spit, and Tempest in both ways of counting.
If you use the "One variant per air force" rule, you get Dora, Spit and La-7 in both ways of counting.

So the Dora and the Spit are without doubt the top two choices.
If HTC were to use this vote to decide which three A/C to model, (and that's a big if) they'd be compelled to take those two plus a Ta-152, a Tempest or a La-7.
But they haven't said what they'll do with it.
Frankly, I think we'll be happy with what they give us, especially if the Dora includes the 2xmk108/2x151/20 loadout option.  FInally a plane with decent medium- and short-range cannon!

Anyone remember what plane won a similar vote in WB? It was the P-47. Now how long did it to get that one modelled, when the vote was done Jeffrey Dillman was still playing...

So thanks a lot we'll never <edit>get</edit> the the Fw 190D-9 now.

Frenchy,
Not necessarily.  The Fw190A-5 and A-8 are not the easiest fighters to suceed in, yet the Fw190D-9 tops the vote by far.  I've been flying the P-47D-25 and Fw190A-5 lately and I find them to be comparable.

I don't think the P-47 has ever had the popularity that the Fw190, Spitfire or P-51 have had in the simulation community.

Karnak,

don't you think that the natural tendancy of the arena player is to go to the Super weapon. The one you know is the best at something or "most things", usually the Spit/Niki because they turn the best and still can accelerate fly fast. Or the Pony, because they know that when they run, well... Ciao bello...

then you have to add players who are dedicated to 1 country. LW guys are waiting for the D9 cause he is "mega fast" and has big guns, and nice looking I love his shape   .

Those 2 factors combined makes people want the D9. I recall AW3, most people flying the D9 were, tatatatacatchmeifyoucan type of pilots, mostly same "type" as AH newbies who become serial killers in Osties and dogfighting B17's.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm not afraid of the D9. He was made to be a high altitude aircraft, so he should fly as bad as my P47 on the deck

To talk about the P47/FW190, I don't really fear the FW-A8 but I'm scared of a FW-A5. I saw a lot of pilots out-loop and even out-turn me in them. Usually, if the A5 enagages me co-alt, all he has to do is two Loops and then go in flat turns and all I can do is to see him leaving my gun sight for my six. Same for the f4U BTW, in slow speed flat turn, around 150 MPH, it turns better than my P47.

Note, I don't say it's not normal and my P47 is porked, I just say what I observed in the MA. I have no experience with the FWs but I think I use the P47 to his limits.

The P47 in AW3 was a ... hum... uggly camo and ...well... don't even bother talking his performances. The P47 in WB, I eard it was a flying iron. When the P47 came in TOD whatever, the sky was filed with them, because it was a wonder plane, I think no arguing about that. After the patch, it because way less easy to achive a kill and turnfight with it, people left it. I personaly think that if in TOD whatever people would had been offered a "supper uber P47" intead of their current 'ubber P47" they would had say .... yeah!

But I agree also that the D9 is wanted by most of us (including me even if I will not fly it). Now I think most people consider it as the king of the ubber rides, thus his popularity, but true fans know it's only a plane, with his strenghts and weackness. The D9 will be a tought plane to fly when u put him outside of his high alt B&Z routine, I think. And this is were I will wait those delusioned "D9 dweebs"   --->low and ready to turnfight in my P47 hihihi.

If there is a new plane modeled, I am flying it, uber or not. I want to experience every type of plane avaialable, learn them, kill in them, then move on to the next one.

Whichever 3 survey planes make it are fine with me. I will fly them all. Of course, some may see more time than others...
