Airfield, Vehicle, Port, and Strats Variations
« on: May 15, 2009, 11:55:55 AM »
Maybe when HTC implement the changes in landscapes with the new version, they could work on creating some variations in the airfields and such.  It would be nice to see some new layouts for the structures.

Fields are too uniform.  Bombers can line up their attack runs from sectors away simply because they know exactly where everything will be before they see it.

Ever heard of a map where every single town only has three layout variations?  Didn't think so.   :aok

But you still know what to bomb and where it is.

I think with all the varied types of airfields we've seen in scenarios, HTC could really mix things up and put in about 20 different kinds of airfields with a whole craps shoot worth of ord, fuel, and barracks variation.  ALSO... on that note, I think the amount of ord needed to take down some of targets on the bases should be varied as well.  Only need 250lbs for an ord bunker???  Mehbee or mehbee not???  8k for that CV???  Hmmm.  3k for that hanger???  Perhaps.

There are MANY things in this sim-game that is too same-same.  A bit of mixing things up would not hurt a bit and in fact make things a bit more... interesting and it would make players actually think about things and not rely so heavily on their uber skills.

> G-Froces: X amount of G-forces = auto black out.  Bah!  Since different pilots can withstand different stresses, maybe vary it up from 5.5 to 6.5 G's instead of *always* being 6?  Perhaps have it be random each flight or tour?

>WIND!!! Just think of the effects wind would have on this game!  Oh, and have the wind change 90d every hour or so to spread the wealth.

Etc Etc.

All the terrains and fields have to be default in the MAs. HTC doesn't want a costom field to have a bug and shut the MAs down for hours or days while they figure out what little piece of the map screwed everything up.

I think he is referring to the field layout not its general location. In WW2 they had maps but they didnt show you which bunker is ordnance and which is fuel. Setting a run for hangers 2 sectors in advance is little unrealistic even for a game. Knowing where everything is down to the last field gun needs to go in my humble opinion.

The whole point is to add some diversity to the field, town and strat layouts.  There are some custum field designs in special events arenas.  All this will do is make the bombing runs more challenging and adding some fun at the same time.

We all know on a small airfield that there are one bomber hangar and two fighter hangars on the main pad.  The vehicle hangar's location with the single fighter and bomber hangar's location.  The ord bunkers, the radar tower, etc.

Take a server map like NDIsles.  Make a few small airfields the current layout.  The remaining airfields be redesigned to new layouts.  The same for the other airfields and ports and strats.

This willl give some work to the HTC staff for some creativity.
