I also feel like the -1C feels a little heavier and less agile than the -1A or -1D.

So, I don't fly it quite the same as I do the A/D.  I find I keep my fights a little faster, more "open", and avoid dropping flaps and chopping throttle as aggressively.  I still do those things, just not quite as aggressively.  I'm also more concerned about the "next guy" showing up when I'm in a bad position.

But "cursed"?  No, I don't think so.  If anything, doing the above-mentioned seems to increase my overall survivabilty.  Conversely, when I'm in a -4, I find I feel more free to fly more recklessly since I have all that added power.  That often causes me to find myself all snarled up where I shouldn't be (and quickly dead...) in the -4.

And that doesn't take the gun package into consideration from a lethality standpoint...  When you couple flying faster (and what I think of as "smarter") with guns that allow me to kill with but the faintest little "tickle" I can't think of the F4U-1C as even slightly "cursed"...
