may be a stupid idea, but.....

hello,
Stiffer, thanks for that info, this document has me puzzled for a while.
I have that source as well (techinical description 284). Your comment kade me look at it in a different way that i have before

if i get that document correctly:
The petrol injection was introced in the f600 engine BMW801 D2 in jully  44.
this is the reason for the 1.42 to 1.65 ata increase.(ps this is not MW50).
This dispositive is explained in page 04 of engine operating and fuel system supply, paragraph C emergency power system.

This was part of the BMW801 TU wich was installed after jully 44.
Note Tu Fw190 have been delivered. (one has been captured. It did not have the seat tank installed, it was captured in late august 44)
I understand that the TU and the D2 with this dispositve were differents engines.

However, that bit
"
Fuselage auxilliary tank: ......After Aug-Sept 1944 all A-8 aircraft will be delivered with the auxiliary tank fitted. If required, instead of the 115 Ltr (25.3 gal) fuel, an unprotected Methanol-water (MW 50) tank of either 115 Ltr or 140 Ltr (30.8 gal)capacity, or a GM 1 tank of 85 Ltr (18.7 gal) capacity, can be installed. At the present time, however, it is planned that the standard A-8 will be produced only with the auxillary fuel tank... ",
just made think the following.
I said earlier that i was not sure it was used in operation.
That comment, the fact The BMW801 was mw50 compatible, there is combact report (as much as they are reliable...), there is test for it leads to beleive that it in fact used at least on earlier version...
The only troubling bits are that on the Fw 190 D9, a similar dispositive as the petrol injection was used and it is clear that MW50 had to be adpted to work with that (at least in the D9).
there is not speed chart for the MW50 usage in this technical description.

Anyway it gave me that idea that maybe the MW50 was used before the petrol injection.
That would fit with other german document explainning the difficulty to install a pump in the 190 A for the MW50 to work as in thr D9 (however, it may well be a reference to a high presure MW50 wich was tested in the D9 as well.)

As for the GM1 the altitude figth was not in the A8 attribution as the FW190 were to engage bombers.
But i suppose that some member of the staffel were suppose to protect the one that engaged the bombers (execpt sturm staffel)
anyway there is speed chart for The GM1 in that document.

What do you think ???
All critcisms or diffrent interpretations are wellcome.
