Are you going to use the stuff you put on it? That's what you should ask yourself. I was thinking about putting all this fancy racing stuff on mine, but then, I thought about how stupid it is to race where there's nowhere to race, at 16... You could hurt yourself, and others. Very dangerous.

I'm just curious why it'd be a whole 300 lbs heavier like that, other than because of disposable ballast.
one of the most expensive things in motorcycle racing is weight loss. This is mainly due to the fact that it is achieved by using different materials to manufacture the same parts, i.e. steel tank replaced by carbon fibre tank. Just look at some of our modern day GVs made out of stronger lighter composite materials.
No thank you Turkish, I'm sweet enough.

steel tank replaced by carbon fibre tank...

I'm honestly hoping you haven't installed a carbon fiber fuel tank on anything...plastic, fiberglass or Kevlar for fuel.

Phatzo - Stripping weight from an MC (that's usually already a homologation model) for racing, and gutting extraneous stuff from a stock modern production car are pretty different premises.

Do you realize that a bone stock $6000 2001 Z-28 will still suck the doors off that mustang, right?  My pontiac G8 is rated at over 360hp, yet it gets almost identical dyno numbers as the f-bodies rated at 305hp.  That means every one of those camaros and firebirds running around with "305 hp" LS1s are really toting around over 360hp from the factory.

Yea, styling.  And a used car will of course need work.  But you can find really nice used f-body cars for not very much money, and for just a few more bucks you can make them much much faster and better handling than any $50,000+ mustang.

On a related note, today both a hopped up supra and a beautiful brand new vette with dealer tags still on the car wanted to race me while I was driving my new G8 home from work.  I guess the word is getting around about the G8 GT and GXP :)  Very few things on the automotive market today are as appealing as the LS series motors, even when stuffed into a 4000lb sedan :)

:rofl I heard/hear this type of comment a lot, and I quite fail to graps the concept. What makes someone think that a guy buying a $30K+ car would not get an old $6000 bucket if he wanted to? No offense to Whiteman's taste :aok.

Why would need a Z28 anyway? I already have a 73 455 Pontiac Formula, and a 1972 400HP+ Ford Tomato http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFukZRAX1gU. I'll spend the $6000 in my 455 to get a Buttler Performance pump gas 550HP 461.  :)

With today's access to after market parts anything can blow your door off. Last year I pull at the light next to a Dodge Neon. The guy reved it up, the high pitch whine of his force aspiration gave static to my stereo system. When the light turned green, I eard a jet engine sound, followed by a bang, and a shockwave blew me backward. The guy was gone. :rock Now make a survey out there, about would you would rather drive a Dodge neon with SR71 letters on the back, or a classic restored 73 Firebird? Having a car can't be all about a desperate manhood boost where you end up being "The coolest guy you know".  :lol

I love the shape of the new tangtang, I know how I'll make it my own : Torch red, warp around white stripes, window loovers, side scoops, 1.5" lowering kit, black rims/red lip. You don't like it? Why would I care. Your moped is faster than? Why would I care? Your BMW has more cargo room? Why would I care? Your stock pinto brakes are bigger than mine? Why would I care?

You got the picture, too many monkeys drive stuff they don't really like just in the hope they can impress someone once a month. I own/drive for me. In the morning, I look in my driveway and I pick ... 2010 Mustang GT, 73 Firebird, 72 Torino, 72 Dodge Monaco, 86 F250 diesel, 03 Saturn Ion, 75 CB750. Kills me in freacking insurance, but that's what I like in life. I hope I'll be able to keep doing that ... and even add more :pray
Dat jugs bro.

A ridiculously fast car doesn't have to be about showing off.  Maybe the guy is just addicted to the speed.

Missread.....carbon fiber has a similar structure to kevlar and both make dangerous fuel cells. They crack way to easy when pushed beyond there yeild strength ie crash. Same for fiberglass....

Aluminum, steel or plastic for fuel cells or any fuel item.....

So I'm bitting the bullit, I ordered the 2010 GT. It's actually in backorder right now as the "track pack" is not available yet. On second thoughts, I might ditch the $1,400 "track pack", and get the $400 "3.73/dual piston brakes" pack instead with the "Scoops pack 5". I'll put my own rims and shocks anayway, don't care much for the GT500 lower arms nor those summer only P0s. I can add the Ford Sway bars later too.

(Image removed from quote.)

Anyway, I know some here monkeyed around with their 05-09s, what did you do on them, how much $$$, did it end up being worth it?

... and no I should not have bought the Camaro SS, sure better performances but not too crazy about the inside/outside look  :)

can you afford to upgrade to the GT500? it has a supercharged 5.4 with just a smidgen over 500hp.

Well my youngest daughter is getting a black camaro for graduation. She saw the halo lights and wanted those too. It'll have dark pink racing stripes applied by Mobile Graphics. In the fall she is off to A&M. She has an '04 mustang that she has had since she was 16. It is gun metal grey and will probably stay in the family.

betcha within a week, she asks for the mustang back.  :D

I might almost be tempted to get a new Challenger (a few of my coworkers have them, and love them), but those Camaros just don't do it for me. Look too much like a brick with a mailslot in the front to me.

I'm quite happy with my 'Stang, TYVM. :)

WHY do you want swingup doors? Those are the ugliest, most ghetto addition you can make to any car! Don't forget the three foot tall whaletail spoiler while you're at it.  :furious

I'll modify your statement to say GM hasn't made a good Camaro since 1969. :)

I guess the word is getting around about the G8 GT and GXP

In a couple of years, when Pontiac is a fading memory, these are going to be used-car steals.
