She don't step out of PA.   :lol  I take her out once in awhile and sometimes go to Ford Carlisle, PA Car show.  Haven't been there in a few years because of vacations around the sametime as the show.  A buddy of mine has a 536whp XR.  Its not really driveable on the street but the mother is freaking fast,lol.  Let me see if I can find the video he posted of him doing a burnout on the dyno.

Uh huh, the 68/69 Fastbacks are still my all time favorite.  Almost snagged one instead of the 05, then remembered I had No time to restore so who was I kidding :)  Tried that a few years back.

That'll be the retirement present some day.

That'll be the retirement present some day. 

Check out the new Dynacorn shells. Can build a completely new 67-70 fastback from the inside out, and it'll be covered under warranty. :) (its says 67-69, but the 70 was basically the same body as a 69, just some cosmetic changes)

New Camaro based on 69.

yep.....and rather coincidentally, the new mustangs and camaros are the first really good looking ones since 70 for ford, and 69 for chevy.....

i worked on a few of those when they sold them here in the usa.........they sucked. they were the absolute worst cars i ever touched. i'd rather work on a fuego than an xr4ti.

ur right for back then.  Technology back then wasn't there like it is now.  The biggest problem the XR had back then was the head and head gasket.  Most of that problem was because of lack of intercooler and a 25% efficency water pump.  My engine has these problems fixed.  I got the Aluminum head on it (got rid of the cast iron) with the big valve swirl polished stainless steel valves package (1.59 ex/1.89 int), High flow water pump, "D" dish Forged Pistons, Windage Tray, 65mm Throttle Body, TurboXS Boost Adjusting Valve, TurboXS Blow Off Valve, Aluminum Flywheel, Center Mount Turbo big log Header, Ported lower intake, gutted upper intake, 3" down pipe from turbo into cat and then into dual 2 1/2" Borla exhaust, Garrett T3/60-1 w/ .63 a/r turbo, 45pph flow matched Bosch injectors, Walbro Hi-Pressure 255lph Fuel Pump, Custom ground roller cam with adjustable cam timing pulley, alot more stuff, just can't think of it all,lol.

Kewl! I aw\lways had a strange attraction to that car, the Merkur. Almost bought one years ago, a real fixer-upper. But then again, I like all cars, oddball ones included. I've owned 7 Triumphs, what can I say?

Seriously, I'll bet you have some real traction problems putting all that power down on those little rear tires! I've actually got 455 rwhp and 454 tq, in a car that's just a tick over 3000 lbs according to the scales at CMP (local road course). I bet we'd have a good race, but I say I pull a few lengths on you off the line that you never make back up.  ;)

But the fact is, you're right - anything can be made stinking fast with enough $$$. I know a guy who has a street driveable drag car that has a blown 500+ cubic inch chevy big block making over 900hp, tubbed rear end and huge Mickey Thompson drag slicks.

It's a 1980's-something Chevy Chevette.

Traction is not to bad.  The rear is a fully independent and I have upgraded the suspension along with putting neopreme bushings thoroughout the entire car.  If the pavement is dry, spins first for awhile and part of 2nd if I dumb the clutch at 3500+rpm but then she hooks and takes off like a rocket,lol.  Now one thing nice about a turbo car is u don't have full power at low rpm so it gives the tires a chances to grip unless of courses u rev to 3500rpm and dump the clutch.  I like to launch at 2500 rpm and it only spins alittle in first and then by the time the turbo kicks in at 3500, she just goes.  Now if there any chance of wetness on the ground, forget it, I will spin first 4 gears and maybe even 5th.  The car is in storage right now as the place I currently at, there isn't enough room for her.  Gonna soon move it to my parents garage and park it next to there 95 corvette that alrdy eat her dust, hehehe.  Dad was impressed and shocked. :devil :devil

I like the car because u don't see that many on the road like u see mustangs and camaros and such.  People look at ya like it a ford escort and has nothing to show.  But they find out the hard way when all they see is tail lights, hehehehe.  Hell, I remember having a full car load (5 people) and we pulled up along side a camaro IROC-Z with some mods on at least it seemed so.  Anyways he revs his engine up at me at the light.  Of course my friends say to me, "race him".  I said "Dude, I got a full car load here".  Of course they said "so what", I was like "ok, will give it a try".  Light turned green, he pulled on me off the start but soon as I hit 2nd, I reeled him in like he was standing still, lol.  when he got to the next light were I was waiting for him, he gave me a thumbs up and turned off the main drag, hehehehe.  That was about 8 yrs ago if I remember correctly.  I don't do that stuff to much anymore now that I have my kids and wife with me when I drive the car.  We just cruise in it when I get it out.

My favorite part about owning a Mustang is all the kids in four-doors and ricers with fartcans who pull up next to me at stoplights and rev their engines, or get next to me in traffic and do the same. I usually watch them go and then immediately catch up to them when they have to stop for traffic or the next stoplight. Or get pulled over a few miles up the road.

Had one kid do both last summer on Genesee Street in Utica who floored it and peeled away from every red light (in a Dodge Intrepid with a fartcan, go figure) only to slam on his brakes two blocks later for the next red light- all the way through the city. Every light, right next to him again. Then we get on the Judd Road extension heading out of the city (4 lane arterial), and he floored it again- only to slam on his brakes less than a mile later when he saw a sheriff running radar under an overpass. Passed him doing the speed limit, and watched in my rearview mirror as said sheriff pulled out and nabbed him. I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes.

I just love stupid people. And you just see so many of them when you're in a 'sports car'. I've joked with road-cop friends of mine that they should just follow me around and ticket all the 17 year olds in the new car daddy bought them who try to race me, they could fill their quota in a week.

one of my favorite things before my mustang got hit and totaled..........i had line locks on it. if someone pulled up next to me, and looked like they wanted to run, i'd hit the lock, and as soon as the cross light went yellow, i'd bring the engine up to about 4 grand. see the flicker of the red going out, i'd  "bump" it with the clutch, then immediately lift the throttle. i can't even begin to count how many boneheads i got pulled over that way......seeing as i saw the police cruiser across the intersection, and they obviously didn't as they went tearing away.  :rofl

yeh, gotta love morons. I had a couple of losers in a rattletrap Camaro RS that I was pretty sure was a V6 want to run me on the interstate one day last year. They kept speeding up and slowing down, pointing ahead and I could read their lips saying "let's go" ..... so I pointed at their car, pointed back at mine, then pointed at their car again with this confused look on my face.... then threw both my hands up and acted as if I was laughing histerically! That pissed em off so they flipped me off, floored it and sped off ahead blowing oil smoke out of the exhaust the whole way. About 10 miles up ahead a State Trooper had them pulled over.

I blew the horn and waved as I passed.  :lol
