What is proper way to clean flat screen?
« on: May 20, 2009, 08:43:45 PM »
Instructions for monitor damn near say don't use anything to clean it with.  Is there a good and proper method, or product to clean a screen without messing it up?

My Plasma and LCD TV and both my LCD comp monitors recommend damp (water) soft cloths.

For my laptop I use a cleaning solution from memorex which I bought at circuit city before they went out.  Im assuming you could use it on a tv if it works on a LCD screen.  It cleans the screen beautifully.

Damp soft cloth although before I got smart () I cleaned my laptop screen with Windex for years and it's still fine.

50% water/50% white vinegar on a soft cloth.

Do not use windex and do not use papertowel.

Do not use windex and do not use papertowel.

I'm guessing the paper towels would scratch, but why is Windex bad?

Use microfiber cloth and water. Windex can remove non-glare etc. coatings from the screens effectively ruining it.

Additionally, Windex (and other cleaning solutions) often contain ammonia, which can cause some plastics used by some manufacturers to yellow and cloud.
