I that that quote was by a pilot (Can't remember his name) during the "Alamo of the Pacific". He dropped a 500lb or 100lb bomb on a ship and sunk it or did immense damage. Then died during the ground war.

Addendum: I remember who it was I think. It was Hammerin' Hank.
