Holy smokes!

A year?

I'm still trying to figure it out, and it's been closer to 8 years...

BTW Cipher,

VMF-251 is a Corsair-focus squadron in the Main Arenas and FSO. We're open to pilots of all experience levels with an interest in the Hog, and are working on developing something of our own internal ground/flight school. You can find more info on us at our site:

Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

figure it out, as in my kills are higher than my deaths and I'm comfortable diving into any fight. I'm still learning new things.

I know- I was kidding around, being a bit sarcastic...

I'm still learning new things too, but at a very slow pace.

Cipher2, if you see me around just holler, I'll step aside and work with you.  Or PM me and we can set up a time to meet.

The biggest thing to staying alive in the F4U, or any other plane, is good SA.  That's the most difficult thing to get good at too, IMO.  Lots of the other planes that "turn better", accelerate better, than the P51 and F4U will allow you to get (or be) more lax with SA, and still come out ok.  The F4U turns great, but it's defeated pretty easily if your SA isn't pretty good.

Good SA will greatly reduce the number of planes that get on your six.  And the ones that still do won't be a surprise, and can be handled.  If you're being surprised by planes that can get within 3K of your six without you being aware of it, then SA is killing you.

The easiest way to defeat planes 400-600 off your tail is to not allow them there in the first place.  Deal with them before they get that close...

As others have mentioned, The hog in a barrel roll defence is awesome.  Very few planes can stick with it through this given equal pilots.  The hope is they try and do it and burn their E up, and  you can use the hogs supperior low speed handling to kill them, or they shoot out in front of you after they tried to slow down giving you an easy saddle up.

Where at Steve?  My family owns a cabin on a lake in Bayfield County, just outside of Iron River.  I plan on being there for two weeks at the beginning of July.
