I live in Maryland very close to central Pa.Thats just right up 81.I may have to look at going to this.

I think your better of going on a plane
"Now, if I had to make the choice of one fighter aircraft above all the others...it would be, without any doubt, the world's greatest propeller driven flying machine - the magnificent and immortal Spitfire."
Lt. Col. William R. Dunn
flew Spitfires, Hurricanes, P-51s, P-47s, and F-4s

Do so !! You won't be sorry !

I've been 4 or 5 times over the last 10 years, and it's awesome EVERY year I've made it. I have 2 graduations I have to go to this weekend or I'd make the 4 and a half hour drive down again. One year we had 11 guys from our squad get together there. I've met Murdr, and AKDogg there as well. If you run into a older guy dressed as a SP (Shore Patrol) working the show his name is Greg, AKA CVA and used to fly AW and Aces. Tell him Maddog says HI for me will ya !

Have fun guys !

my suggestion to those going for the first time is to get there early, like the doors open at 8 and I would get there before then.

Last year I did not get off work until 8a and did not get there until 10a. I had to sit in traffic on the interstate for what seemed an eternity. This was worsened because I was on a motorcycle with shorts on and the exhaust pipe gave me nice first degree burns from sitting there so long.

It is a great time and if you can go I highly recommend it. There are lots to see and many vets there willing to talk and give autographs and the planes take off all day long fly around and come back, the fighters flying formations and arobatics. It is not something you want to miss.

I've have gone for the 5 past years ,once even rented a motor home and stayed right out side the gate with fellow squad mates. What a great time it was a 1 min walk and we were in the gate. This year is hard though It's a 3and a half hour ride from here [Jersey shore] but trying to make it one day not sure yet. Hopefully my CO will be recovered from his VACA,and we can make it.

Maybe set a time to meet in front of the main hanger SAT and SUN ?  Would be nice to meet some more AHers have in the past.

A friend and former sqaudmate (he no longer flies) lives in Jersey just over the boarder, and he use to get two rooms at the airport hotel on January 1st (they wouldn't let you reserve rooms for the following year) for the weekend of the show. Made for a great place to hook up and tell old "war stories" from the game. aaaaahhhh Maybe next year.

They do have rides there but I think that you will need to set them up ahead of time, though I am not completely sure. Here is the link to their site.

someday i plan to take a ride on the B17 though. :pray

edit: some of them you need reservations for and others you can't at all. below is the link to the rides section of their site and it has most of the info needed.

Traditionally you meet at (or just outside) the Officers Club, at a time of your choosing.
