New widescreen monitor
« on: May 28, 2009, 12:52:52 PM »
Hi, I am currently lucky enough to be using a 37inch widescreen TV as my monitor. The question I have is what size should I set it up at? In the AH settings folder we can choose anything from standard to wide to THTG sizes.

My problem Is that when i roll an aircraft, the world stretches to fit the widescreen. I have tinkered with the FoV custom setting but not found anything which eliminates this. Any tips would be most appreciated. At present flying is so disorientating, nothing feels right. Stall turns give me an insane warping of dimensions. Quick rolling makes the trees and object visibly elongate and compress as the widescreen tries to display a full screen image.

Ok, that was confusing and incoherant, im sorry. Any ideas, anyone?

edit:

Currently using 1024x1280 resolution and the widescreen setting of '100' (I have tried all from 90-140 with no perfect size)
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

I would guess you mean you use "1280x1024" unless you have a tall thin TV. :)

1280x1024 is not a widescreen resolution.  Something in the 1680x1050, 1440x900 would work better, otherwise you have a fullscreen image on a widescreen Monitor.
Try a Widescreen Resolution and "widescreen" and see if it helps.

When I went from a 17" Monitor to a 22" WS the res of 1280x1024 stretched things all over.

The resolution is your problem.  You need to pick a widescreen resolution (16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio).  Check the option in the game to show all the available resolutions, then pick the native resolution for the television.

Usually a television is either 1920x1080 (if the TV set is natively 1080p capable) or 1280x720 (if the TV is only 720p capable).

Once you have the resolution set, then check the "Widescreen" option in the game.  Or you can dally about with the custom FOV setting, as the "Widescreen" option assumes a 16:10 aspect ratio computer monitor, not a 16:9 television.

Thank you both for the light speed answer. I will go and see if I can figure this out with that.
What an amazing customer service. Even to the idiots like me.

i think the issue might be that you're viewing up to 140 degrees on a flat screen which is probably no more than 30 degrees in front of you.

Related to this topic, do FOV settings affect Icon range in anyway? Incidently, I've found setting FOV to 110 on my 1920x1200 Benq 24" works well.

Some TV's have goofy resolutions. I have a 40" LCD and its res is 1366x780. When I hook the comp up to it my vid cards let me write my own custom resolutions. Not sure if AH allows for that or goes by what your vid card has as options. Look at your documentation or online for the particular model's best res.

Hope that helps.
