ya i am looking at 19D too, but i heard there the same thing as Infantry is todays style warfare. I just want to be the BEST but i also want to have a slightly relaxed  job. I dont know how to describe it. its so hard to decide because someone will say INFANTRY its the best! then someone will say GO 19k! you get to blow the bejesus out of buildings!

As combat arm, you're not gunna be relax. If you want relax job, try something else like 25z, signal etc. combat arm, you're gunna have to man it up and just enjoy the harsher life style=)

I am really starting to consider 19D. Can 19D Cavalry Scouts become go to RIP? Also could you tell me abit about them? I know they specalize in recon but in Iraq they are acting as Infantry. I know they drive light armored vehicals.

I'm Branch detail, so I got 4 years as combat arm w/ Armor, then I'm headin to signal captain career course. Armor is okay so far, I enjoy it. I hate tanks =D I love the scout stuff =)

19K, you're a tanker. (driver, loader, gunner, TC). 19D would be humvee, stryker or bradley. I rly dunno how it works in country, that's pendin on unit SOP. Generally, scout are usually act as infantry and dismount quite a lot.

19D is kind of like the German Grenadiers in WWII- ride around in light armored vehicles (or on heavier ones), then dismount and fight as infantry. They also fill the traditional Cavalry role (at least the American idea of cavalry) of light recon, skirmishers and screening larger forces. Tough job and a lot of different weapons and vehicles to learn, but at least you'd probably never be bored.

Your best bet of getting RIP is by going to Airborne School.  Get the Airborne Infantry option.  While in Airborne after Basic and AIT, they will ask for people to go to RIP.  Just put your name in the book and off to RIP you go after you get your wings.

I dont know, i am kinda leaning toward Infantry cause in the future i would hope to become a Ranger, plus i like the idea of Airborne and Air Assualt.


This is going to sound dumb but i have a freind who is joining the USMC and we both talk joke about each other choice of service. we'll both be getting back from training around the same time and we are gonna see who is more bad***.  And Infantry really seems to be the most "hardcore" job.

I still havnt made up my mind tho, there is chance i might go 19D or 19K

Blackhawk mechanic. It was 67T when I was in. You can become a crew chief and fly with your aircraft. Lots of fun, except in combat. But at least you would not be walking everywhere.

xD if you enjoy 20miles humpin a day w/ 60-90lbs rucksack, going on 2-3 hours sleep then Ranger is for ju ! seriously though feels hooraah now but man a few years down the road, it doesn't really matter. I feels like that every time i go through a school. I'm always hooraah starting, but by day 50, i'm like a fuk who cares =D

Yup, thats how I was by the 10th week of OSUT for 19K. First week was totally gung-ho, by the last three weeks I was ready to slaughter every man in my Platoon and bathe in their blood, just for the few moments of blessed peace I would have before the MPs showed up.
