Hummmm,  I live in Chicago. Sadly, I have not visited one of my favorite places in 8-9 years..  Sounds like a good reason to visit it again.

I live in Homewood, right next to the train station and its about 20min ride on the electric line to 54th and 55th. I love going to the Museum of S and I. Unfortunately I gotta work all week :(

I would have been all for meeting up some pilots, they got the German submarine, a Stuka and a Spitfire in there!

You work all day on Friday? It's free until Friday so going late is not a waste of money at least. Hope you can go before or after work!

Cool,

I happen to be in Chicago right now for work. However I have to head back to Texas Friday so I'll miss hooking up with you guys. I'd probably get lost anyway.  :D

I thought Butch O'Hare's F4F in the Airport Terminal was a nice touch guys.  :aok

Midway has a few planes hanging as well.

Unfortunately it might be being re named.

Incidentally, for those wondering, Midway was named in 1947, after the Battle of Midway, but with so few veterans of WWII left, and so much for the city to gain by renaming Midway after Obama, don’t think for a moment the WWII honor will stand in the way here.

I don't think AH has any forum to discuss this so SHHHhhhhhh or have it locked. I just posted it as a reminder of things to come.

I think its roughly 3 years too early to re-name Midway...who knows, Obama may take off his mask to reveal he is Frank Drebbin...from Police Squad!

Wish I was in the area.  Was able to go through the U-505 several years ago.  It has some family history too it.

My great uncle was part of the 8-man team that clambered aboard and helped keep it from sinking.  Before anyone else was able to get aboard, they had gone through the boat and taken a couple of souvenirs.  I have held the captain's pistol and a rifle that he had taken.  Unfortunately, he is gone now and so are the guns.

Same here.

Some great museums in Chicago.  The Field Museum of Natural History is my favorite, but the Museum of Science and Industry is a close second.  The Stuka and Spitfire hanging from the ceiling were the first WWII aircraft that I saw up close when I was a kid.  U-505 is awesome as well.
