Single greatest piece of advice
« on: June 04, 2009, 11:22:35 PM »
If you could only give one tip to a new pilot what would it be.  If everyone gives one tip, this thread will be full of great tips.

Here is mine.

Think in three dimensions, Using the vertical is one of the best ways to save energy and win the fight.  Flat turns bleed energy fast and can lead to putting yourself at a disadvantage.

Have the patience to climb to altitude.  Rushing to the fight gets you into the fight faster, but it alo gets you out of the fight faster too...

I would tell them to always use flaps when you are turning with an enemy.

Run!

Seriously if your closure rate on a con's six is too high risking an overshoot make your firing pass then roll over the top of him (barrel roll) turning your speed into vertical seperation then drop back behind him in a better position.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

If you think you have a shot on an enemy (even if it was a 1v1), check behind you. Historically, there was a possibility of having a bandit there, in the MA someone will be there, guaranteed.

If you are in anything but a Spit or a 51 multiply that by 3, since most are tired of shooting down the same planes. If you are in a P38, assume that every bandit within 5.9k will be diving on you.

No one really dies, planes are free.  You learn best by fighting, not avoiding them.

Try shooting at the point in space the target will be not where they are.

Keep your eye on the enemy, track him, study him, and fly your plane to where your looking. Don't just look at where your flying.
