Past arguments have said that WWII era tanks really tried to avoid this due to the frequency of throwing a track in this maneuver. Some (most?) couldn't even do it.

yes i believe that the tiger can only have this option in AH so far but neutral drive is still a very good option

Hell if a Tiger could be made to rotate in place, then there would be no excuse for not introducing a couple of assault guns, and/or tank destroyers :rock.... and why stop there?
Why not the ability to drive the tank from the gunners/commanders position?, or a fix that keeps tanks from rolling downhill at unbelievable speed?
Or how about solid enemy vehicles that cannot be driven through?

I vote yes :aok

Not sure where I read it (maybe the book Band of Brothers), but the Germans were known for driving over trenches and foxholes. Once over them, they would lock one track and grind the guys underneath into hamburger.

I'm not saying it is true, frankly it seems like a good way for a tank to take shaped charge at close range, but I read it none the less.

Why not the ability to drive the tank from the gunners/commanders position?

Because it's already there. If you have a rudder axis on your joystick, you can steer the tank from the #3 position. Probably #4 too, but not many people use that one very often.

This maneuver is so hard on equipment, that it is even discouraged today on modern track excavators.

If you have driven track ex rigs you will know what I am talking about...in fact if you happen to rent this sort of heavy equipment they will tell you to avoid this maneuver at all times and rather encourage you to take the load off of one track with the arm and then do a single track boom pivot..

I would bet that WW2 tanks would throw tracks all the time doing this.

Does seem like it would throw alot of tracks.  And whats up with a 2 inch thick track makin your tank dip 4 feet in this game?  Some things need fixed before we get this wish.

I'm pretty sure that the road wheels aren't solid in this game, meaning the part of your tank that "catches" you is the right angle behind the axles.

Actually if you have rudder pedals you can man the main gun or turret gun and drive at the same time. I do it all the time. Same is true for PT boats.

Yes you could, but not shoot and drive at the same time, much more immersion into the game using all appendiges.  :D

Ah but reversing direction, or shifting gears is only available in the driver position... :aok
