Please help your CM staff
« on: June 08, 2009, 10:11:28 AM »
An incident arose in FSO on Friday in which I would ask for your help.  The assigned CM as “Bouncer” had some connection difficulties so I was selected as substitute.  The first frame of FSO is always more challenging in that people show up with no squad affiliation and expect to fly.  Several squads, my own included have to adjust the Roster to stay within numbers.  My squad has liberal invite privileges and we have assigned people who watch the Roster for our pilots who are “out of uniform.”  We also try to arrive as early as possible to make sure everyone knows the Orders and is in colors.

To protect the innocent, I will not single out the pilot or the squad.  However, last Friday, a person (one of about twenty) shows up with no squad affiliation.   I PM’d the person several times.  If you are new, keep in mind responses to PM’s on “Country Channel” may or may not be seen by the CM.  I will only see your response if we are on the same country, you respond on channel 200, or you PM me directly.  Finally at Takeoff, the person 1) didn’t show on the Roster as being a member of a registered squad and 2) hadn’t responded to private messages.  At that point, he was ejected.  Immediately, the CO of the squad sent me a PM asking why his player was ejected.  I explained that he was not in colors and hadn’t reponded to our calls.  The CO responded that he had sent the player an “invite” 5 minutes earlier. OK..... an invite doesn’t mean he is part of the squad.  More importantly, if he accepted the invite, he is not yet in squad colors.  In order to show on the Roster, the pilot needs to re-log or the CO can simply click on the button to adjust the Squad name after the person accepts.

FSO is an event for registered squads only.  If you are not on the Roster as being a member of a registered squad, you are not allowed to fly the event.  One last warning, there is no command to “un-eject” a pilot. Once you are ejected, you are done for the evening. We try to be very careful.  But we have approximately 500 players to keep track of.  As your newest CM, I ask for your help.  Please have your people ready at the latest by launch.  If you are having troubles, please PM your CM staff as early as possible.  Your staff is committed to keeping FSO as fun as possible for all players.  I regret the lack of communication cost a player his opportunity to fly in last week’s event.  Again, help me out please.  :salute

The CO or anyone that the CO allows can just do a dot command to rename the squad, which will make all of the new people who have accepted an invite to show up on the roster.  That command is     .sqdname [sqd name goes here without brackets].   That keeps people from having to log out and in so close to launch.   :salute

Something I'd like to throw out there...

When a new guy shows up before an FSO frame, he doesn't have the faintest idea what you mean when you say that he must be "in uniform" or "in colors"...  I'm certain that many are frenetically trying to figure out which skin they are supposed to be using.

You might consider being more clear.  The folks who know what you mean by "in uniform" aren't necessarily your target audience.

No doubt, first question I get from members new to FSO is how do I get in uniform.

The FSO CM has a multitude of things going on especially the time period between t-30 and t+10.

The rules state "there are no walkons in FSO". Being there are no walk ons that means you should have an invitation from a registered squad. A registered squad should have a C.O. and X.O. at the bare minimum. These command personnel should and are responsible for the player they have invited into the arena i.e. getting them in uniform and making sure they follow all the rules and guidelines of the event.

It is not the respsonsibility of the FSO CM to talk them through the requirements of flying in the event

Wow. lighten up a bit.  I was only suggesting that instead of repeatedly telling people that they must be "in uniform", use a phrase that someone new to the arena is more likely to understand.  Something like, "You must be invited to join a squad in the FSO arena."  Or something along those lines.

I think its plenty easy enough for the squad CO or anyone in the squad to inform the uniform thing. its not that difficult. I agree that the FSO staff has enough to do at beginning of frame.

Didn't mean for it to come across harsh  :o Just stating the rules.

Plain as day on the FSO rules page.
http://ahevents.org/fso-related/fso-rules.html

- Squads are expected to put guests in uniform prior to the start of the frame. Any pilots that are not in uniform by the start of the frame may be ejected. Even in bold yellow. You can’t miss it.

Simple is the easiest route.

Just tell the newcomers that they must be pre-registered and in an affiliated or registered squad.  No exceptions.

Any walk-on that shows up b4 the event, not in uniform, should be happy to catch a ride with any squad. If the Co has not enough time to get them sutied up. Well, the walk-on is just SOL.  Maybe they should get there a little earlier next time.  Just my 2 cents.
The warnings for un-uniformed pilots go out prior to launch. (sometimes even the names).  I think its up to the Co's to take care of the business ....  :salute

Walk-ons:  Thank them for their interest. Tell them the event is for members of registered squads.  Have them ask on Country Channel if any squad is willing to invite them for the event.  Have willing squad CO/XO explain the rest.

- No walkons will be allowed on the day of the events, (frames). Any individual pilots wishing to participate must pre-register with squadrons or contact the squadrons ahead of time, not the minutes before the frame, or in the SEA before the start of the frame.

Seems pretty self explanatory to me. No walkons will be allowed on the day of the events means no walkons the day of the event. Boot anyone who asks for a squad to fly with is my opinion, but I like enforcement of rules, so take it with a grain of salt. If a CO has accepted someone new to fly with them, then he should have an invite already waiting for them when they enter the arena. As far as I know this can be done ahead of time, if not disregard I guess, though I have had this happen before. Cuts down on any loose ends immediately.
Used to fly as Halo46, GRHalo, Hobo and Punk at the end.

As CO of the 367th I feel its my personal responsibility to get my guys in uniform not the CM's. Thier plates are full if this helps usually
I delegate 1 guy to make a squad mission of our assigned duties,1 to monitor command channel,1 to assign the wingman and flights,
1 to watch for incoming players.Hope this might help.

This was exactly the intent of my post.  I think the squad CO's do a great job in getting their players lined out for the event.  Your continued help is very much appreciated.  As the event has grown, more and more people are interested and want to participate.  The CM's stay very busy.  That's exactly why you will see me call "CO's and XO's please check the roster for your pilots."  By the way, if you enjoyed FSO in the past... here's a teaser.  Wait till you see what the staff has coming...  :salute
