Get the Squads in the AvA
« on: June 08, 2009, 11:27:13 AM »
Squad participation is the future of the AvA. The AvA will develop and grow as a result of structured squad participation. The MA "must not die so I will do everything I can to live" would be minimal as the squad reputation and credibility would always be on the line.
We already have a few solo guys from squads showing up, and therefore we should be going after the rest of their members.
I think it would be great if the AvA CM staff could focus on this over the next few weeks. The rank and file would help in anyway possible.
Can we have the staff  put all the petty politics of "He said, they said and he said to him" aside please and focus on the task at hand of swelling the numbers?
I belive we need an AvA guru, the one point of contact for AvA development in terms of numbers.

Can you elaborate on the "petty politics" the Staff is hung up on and what has given you that impression?

I'm curious as to why you chose that portion of my post and not the crux of the matter? I'm not Kojack by any means but trolling through posts in this forum and reading ch200 leads me to the above conclusion.
A few simple steps to help things get started.
1. Contact HT and get an AvA related email out to all squad CO's. The  email could be sent out on a monthly or a BI- monthly basis.
The email could conntain information relating to set ups, Background information and a short bio on the CM staff.
2. Regular postings in the General discussion thread.
3. Open threads with input from anyone and including HT about how to move forward.
4. A rewards or an Incentive program, maybe something like 10 perk points for trying the AvA out for a night, Incentives like landing 2 kills etc could be rewarded for new players.
5. Work closely with FSO and try and Integrate AvA into their communication system.

I'm willing to play my small part in this program.
I hold a Bsc in Business and I'm working towards an MBA (Marketing) If there's any of my skill sets that could be utilized by the AvA team then feel free to get in touch.

I really don't know if HTC would provide us with emails of squad CO's or not. I think a better route would be to compile a list on your own of those intrested. And proceding from there.

2. Regular postings in the General discussion thread.
3. Open threads with input from anyone and including HT about how to move forward.

What is stopping anyone from doing this now? I see Oldman and Jaeger make posts in the GD forums quite often. I don't recall any threads not being open for discussion either. Keep in mind iTunes that the AvA is a player run arena. That doesn't just translate to the AvA Staff either. Larrys bomber missions are the best example of that.

4. A rewards or an Incentive program, maybe something like 10 perk points for trying the AvA out for a night, Incentives like landing 2 kills etc could be rewarded for new players.

I'm not sure this is plausible. Not that it's a bad idea, but I don't see how we could accomplish it.

5. Work closely with FSO and try and Integrate AvA into their communication system.

We have in the past ran set ups that complemented an upcoming FSO. Do note that the CM Staff is separate from the AvA Staff. Also the AvA Staff does not work for HTC and receives no compensation and little to no input on how to run the AvA.

At the height of its popularity the AvA would bring in 60-70 on squad nights from week to week. These were good times to say the least and efforts to realize this have never panned out for a variety of reasons. The set ups were never more than a basic set up we do now and we had plenty of flamefests on the BBS. But people came. We had a solid core of dedicated squads that showed up and participated. We do not have that anymore. There are plenty of preconceived notions about the AvA, some justified, some just utter bs. Never the less they are there and come to the surface quite often, especially when the numbers start increasing. People are going to have get over some things and just let some other things go. I think we are at point where the AvA can turn the corner right now. We have these moments a few times a year and we end up falling back to the same old bs. And there are plenty willing to stir the pot and place the blame. This why AvA threads that are over two pages long are monkey poofights.

Speaking of monkeypoo fights. Take a look at your squadmate who insists on trolling for attention like a spoiled little crybaby day after day. Can you explain to me how this in anyway helps with the AvA iTunes?

Tunes, contacting squads via E-mail is an excellent idea. One that anybody can do. HTC isn't needed. I'll talk to soda and see if we can get a contact list of squad COs and post a sticky in the DG forum

Doing something like the MoM emails would work well.

An AvA staff member could easily put the relevent text together for a mail merge. HT could run an Information and highlight section  RE: AvA on his front web page, The section on the AvA could highlight the match ups, historical relevence and garner some excitement. I'm sure the website gets a lot of hits everyday that could give the arena more exposure, and furthermore, this idea would be  better than a few lines of text over ch200 extolling the virtues of the AvA.
If the  AvA set up mirrored an upcoming FSO then that would also play a part.
The bottom line gentlemen is that we all have a part to play and Jaeger, no you can't borrow Winston. My Bulldog is currently trying to get next doors Yorkshire Terrier in a vice like grip. This endeveour consumes the mad dog on a daily basis.
I'm glad he's found this pastime, afterall, I've went through a Saitek and a microphone due to Winston trying to help me out in the Cartoon world :)
