Beach Fishing in the US
« on: June 09, 2009, 07:22:55 AM »
Ok, this is for those experienced anglers among us. How doe's beach fishing in the US compare to the beach fishing in the UK? Not talking about fish types, size etc, more on the gear you use. Currently I use a pair of matched Zziplex 12ft beach casters, up to 6oz lead capacity, pendulum casting to around 180 yards or so (further with a following wind).

What line to use (in the UK, we use 15lb main line, with a shock leader at 10 pound to every ounce of lead ie, 6oz lead, 60 pound shock leader (which makes it much safer to cast hard and far)).

Would the same be useable in the US, or do I need to change my mindset whilst fishing??

I also coarse fish, but can get my head around the differences there, and my fly fishing gear is easily transferable.

Ah I love beach fishing. I goto the outer banks north carolina. Been going for 12 years. I fish the rocks with a 6 and half poll with a 6 oz lure. If I'm fishing straight off the beach. I used a 8 footer, red drum rig with a 8 oz weight. Buying new gear this year though. Because my 8 footer flew out the back of my truck and was ran over a few times.

Never fished in the UK. I fished off the beach in Pensacola Florida for Pompano and it was great. Don't even have to dig for worms. Just use a basket to grab some crustacean next to the beach and put it on your hook. Awesome stuff.
