Vista stuck in update screen after restart.
« on: June 14, 2009, 06:15:05 PM »
My sisters computer goes to a screen that says its doing update 3 of 3 but it never gets past the third update.

What would cause this?  And how can I help her fix it?

Thanks.

Try running the update manually from the Windows Update Website.

http://update.microsoft.com

(Use method, "Custom.") It should show you the updates available for your computer. You should install all, "High Priority" updates. If the update fails again it should print out an error message for you. If we get that error message we might be able to assist you further.

If you are trying to do the SP1 service update, make sure you do not have any malware/spyware/anti-virus programs running and also make sure no security software is running at all.

If Norton is installed on that computer, remove it.  You can install it again if you must.
