Got scammed....almost...
« on: June 14, 2009, 02:20:21 AM »
So on yahoo on the front page they had a news article about some guy making 2K a month with advertising, i looked at it and checked it out...went to two links and the page has gotten many hits and thumbs up, user comments, and ect. so its these two advertising tools...it was 1 buck each for a trail membership to both sites, so i said, what the hell two bucks no biggie...did it and looked over it, lots of work and talking so i decide naw, not for me, then i started to get a sinking feeling and i totally forgot about the terms and conditions....

holy ((**R*)$#(

Im gald i looked at that soon, on the first site after the 7 day trail they will charge 99.99$/ month automatically unless i called them and cancled. Luckily it was a 24/7 call center and I talked to the guy and he said I was one of the smart ones for reading the terms, he said most people just forget about it until they see that charge and its too late by then. Got the email from the office saying i was canceled (saved the email and printed, with the sites terms and ect, just in case legal intervention will be needed later  ;) )

The second site was almost the same way except only 29.99/ month...but...there call center is only opened during the week and I got 14 days to cancel this one, so i have to wait till monday

SO LESSON LEARNED:

READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS!!!

im going to the bank tomorrow to check on my account and to make sure thats all they charged ;) and even if nothing has changed, im going to request my CC to be canceled and then get a new number

start calling me a dumb&&& cause i feel like one, although i believe these are legit sites, just misleading on there memberships... for the purpose of not getting this post shut off im not going to name the sites.

EDIT:

Just called my bank (the CC center) went over my transaction report and everything seemed fine, those charges did go through, (the 2 bucks) and i asked if the companies were on any fraud alerts or anything, and he confirmed that they were not. I cancled the number and I asked if they will be able to charge anymore to my account since it was cancled and he said no. So everything should be ok.

EDIT 2:

Ok tracked it all down, ***WHAT IM ABOUT TO SHOW YOU IS TO INFORM YOU ABOUT HOW THIS WORKS***

It was not yahoo it was a ad on facebook, heres the ad link (no spyware) : http://www.tribunenewsfirst.com/college-drop-out-makes-10000-a-month-from-home/?t202id=1581&t202kw=facebook.male.update

looks legit, until i tried to click on the top to go the home page...nothing

TURNS OUT http://www.tribunenewsfirst.com is a hub!!!!!!!!!!!

basically this entire thing was that you would post links and when people would click on the link and buy the product you would get a comission off of it...

guess what this hub was about??

this was one of those ways to draw people into buying the product of advertising....genius i must say, like i said...too much work for me :D

well the thing is i have to wait till monday to call that one office of that one site, and if its fake (which i doubt but who knows) then the T&C states i will owe that amount if my bank does not pay the funds (I did cancel my Credit Card). So if i can't get ahold of the company will I be liable for the funds because I was unable to cancel my sub?
