Typhoon Rockets
« on: June 14, 2009, 08:37:22 PM »
I was watching a TV show the other day on D-Day and it was showing the roll of the Typhoon as a ground attack aircraft (in which it excelled at) and it mentioned it had two types of rockets.  It had HE rockets and AP rockets.  Man it sure would be grea if we could get the AP rockets!!!!!

You do realize rockets were highly inaccurate in WWII? Be happy with what you've got.

I'm talking reality. What we have in Aces High is a blessing compared to reality.

AP rockets were intended for anti-armor use and HE were intended for anti-shipping.  In actual practice the opposite proved to be the most effective use and so AP rockets were used for anti-shipping while the HE rockets were used for anti-armor attacks.

Apparently the AP rockets would hit the water, then travel beneath the surface for quite a distance, making them effective at piercing the pressure hulls on the German U-boats and hitting beneath the waterline on regular ships  :aok

My ability to detect humor has degraded rather rapidly. Thank you for pointing me back, again.
