Stopping your stick/throttle from sliding around...
« on: June 17, 2009, 12:30:29 PM »

Stick: X-52

Required:  Ideas on how to temporarily fasten it to my desk to keep it from sliding around..
Desk is old and don't mind drilling holes if need be..  Must be simple yet effective..  Velcro,
tie straps or something similar would be ideal..  Although I'm pretty handy and resourceful, the only tools I have access to
is a drill with a couple drill bits (left my tools with x-girl friend in Cali, married now and wrote
them off as a loss) and I'm too lazy/miserly to buy anything else if I'm only going to use it
once..

You can also try Zip Ties.  Drill your holes in your desk, or piece of wood.  You can get ties at most hardware stores/wal-mart/etc.

You can buy velcro that has adhesive on the back side. Clean the surfaces with a little alcohol put the velcro on the stick/throttle base, and set it down where you want it push down firmly. Now the stick and/or throttle will stay where you want and you can remove them when you need too.

If you look at the bottom of your X-52 you'll see mounting points. On mine I used 1/4-20 x 2 bolts and used some JB Weld to secure the bolts in the mounting points. I then drilled 1/4 holes in my old desk where I wanted my stick and throttle. When I put them in place I use 1/4-20 wing nuts to secure everything in place. You only need 2 bolt per base.

Got a spot in the house that would fit 6footx3foot? Are you good with a jigsaw? If so send me an email and ill send you the plans for a simpit. Takes t pieces of 4x8 foot plywood. You'll want to get rid of the desk all together.

I took 2 12"x 28" plywood, placed the stick on the plywood, put screws in as guides to hold the sticks in place, and I use furniture clamps to hold it in place. This as the added benefit of being able to remove the sticks and place them out of the way if I'm not on AH at the moment.
