Don't know exactly how I did it buttttttt
« on: June 19, 2009, 12:59:51 AM »
I got poison ivy by my eyes. Last night it felt like my face was burning and just odd. Then this morning I could barely open my left eye. I keep poison ivy scrub and ivy dry handy at all times and gently, carefully used it to dry the rash. Can see a little better now. It probably happened when I was mowing. I got hot and started sweating. Then wiped my forehead with my sleeve. Never had on my face before. Although I've had some bad cases in the past. Washed all my clothes in bleach today as well.

Once when camping, a group camping near us accidentially put poison ivy in their fire (dunno how) and got it in their lungs.  Had to be rushed to the ER.

You wanna try NZ native nettle:

Quote
The stings of Urtica ferox, the ongaonga or tree nettle of New Zealand, have been known to kill horses, dogs and at least one human

Quote
Résumé / Abstract
A 21-year-old student developed an acute, symmetrical, predominantly motor polyneuropathy within 48 h of walking through a patch of nettles (Urtica ferox). Two companions had similar but less severe symptoms. Nerve conduction studies demonstrated markedly reduced compound muscle action potentials and prolonged distal motor latencies. Recovery occurred over a period of a few weeks. This case demonstrates that cutaneous exposure to Urtica ferox can cause an acute polyneuropathy and that its stinging hairs contain an unidentified neurotoxin.

I had the displeasure of brushing this stuff with a finger once. After the burning for a day stopped I had no feeling in that finger for week - it was like a local anaesthetic where you can feel vibrations but not anything from the nerves in the finger :(

One day I was bored and decided to make a bow and arrow from scratch.  I went outside and saw a vine and a bendy stick.  Boom!  It actually worked pretty well, however to my displeasure I later found out that I had made it with poison ivy.  And yep, I had touched my face quite a bit.  I was swollen up, in the words of my sister "like an asian fetus".  I couldn't open my eyes for days and it was the worst burning sensation I've ever experienced (and I've burned myself pretty badly).

This is pricey, but has worked wonders for me in the past (YMMV):

Wash your bed linens as well. If it gets really bad go to a doctor and get a shot of steroids. That stuff cleans the Poison Ivy right up  :rock

Oh my... when i was a young teen i had to cut my grandmothers back yard. Her property has a serious drop down a hill that was never cut before. Well i went down there with a weed wacker and needless to say, it was a mass of poison ivy. I was covered head to toe (eyes, mouth, nose too) with a nasty rash. My mother took me to the ER where i got a shot of something and a bath in calamine lotion. Ever since then, not an issue with it.
