Classic story from one of the Spitfire XII guys I got to know. They were awaiting delivery of their first XII. It was the first Griffon engined Spit and was supposed to be more of a beast to fly.
They watched as it curved in nicely and touched down without a problem before rolling to a stop. Out popped a female ATS pilot, promptly skewering the egos of the hotshot fighter pilots watching.
Lots of women flew the Spit. Carolyn Grace owns her own Spit 9 in England.
This photo is of a woman ferry pilot, Jackie Moggridge, bringing a Spitfire LFIX to Burma
