LA5 stall.
« on: June 20, 2009, 08:03:06 PM »
I seldom fly the LA5, but today for some ungodly reason I decided too..

I went fishing near a base where nothing was going on.. flying at about 3000 ft, not RIGHT over the base but within dot range..  trying to lure someone out for a 1v1..

Nobody came up, so I started messing around..  for no apparent reason I pulled straight up and zoomed up to 5000ft at which point I dropped below 100mph..   and that's when the weird began...  I tried to kick it over, but instead it fell.. literally straight backwards..  straight down..   I tried everything.  WEP, no throttle, flaps, no flaps.. and every conceivable combination there of,  none if it did anything..  I fell 5000ft and crashed tail first into the ocean.

anyone else ever have this problem

I notice some planes do certain things of there own. I was in rolling scissors in a KI84 and when i flipped over the plane fell straight to the ground upside down it wasnt even spinning. LAs dont seem to stall to bad in my opinion maybe you just pushed it to the limit :salute

When's the last time you flew it? In the last update they changed the low speed handling characteristics of the La's, they're trickier to fly now.

I generally don't have stall trouble with La-5s, but the solution for the Ki-84 works on the Lavochkins.

Kill the engine. Simply throttling back is insufficient. Use the E key and shut down the motor. The nose will eventually drop. Once it begins to fly again, restart the engine.

Never had this problem with the Las (don't fly them much though) but I have perfected the arse-first stall in the 152  :lol

I have flow the la-5 a ton and never had it do anything like that. Something I learned flying it, is it can handle itself very well in the low in slow fight. I think it suprises most people when you fly that way in it as well.

I do it all the time when im learning to die in a new ride.  of course more often than not either nobody comes up or 5 guys come up, but sometimes i get lucky and just one guy comes up, and kills me.

When I try this I always get the impression there's two or three guys in the tower all waiting for someone else to up first......

Best bet to drum up some trade is to take some rockets along and take pot shots at the strat stuff or AA. Players are more likely to up to take on a toolshedder.

Usually what I will see is a plane (or2) circling a base waiting for someone to up for a "1v1", but never let them get any altitude.

They will be picked off low and slow as they try.

Alot of times the base will have been de-acked beforehand in "attack" mode by the same pilot who then comes back in"fighter" mode, and waits for guys to up for a "1v1",only to vulch them as they try to up.

They then fly back to their base to land their "kills" with chests all puffed up to a cacophony of "Wtgs" from their comrades.

I call it "base baiting" but I think "fishing" is pretty apt description also.

Its just another gamey way the bottom feeders use to inflate their score.

Some guys will do it with the best of intentions, but most don't.

They don't want to fight, they just want easy kills.

Sorry for the hijack.

My 2 hijackistan cents.. The best way to do it is to come right on the deck, and staying NOE and >3.5K from the tower.

Lmao!!

Thats exactly what I do when coming in from an adjoining base to "suprise" the fisherman.

I come in under the radar, and pop up to say hello, while they're watching the runway.

It's kinda funny that when presented with the 1v1 they supposedly wanted, they run (whee whee whee) all the home. :rofl

I "go fishing" to try to generate a fight, couldn't give a rat's arse about my score. You'll usually find my rank in the thousands somewhere.

I spend most of my time trying to trick the typical overly timid MA player into engaging me and this is one of the ways I do it. Once I get a couple of uppers I "run" clear of the base ack and then turn and fight. Sometimes I'll survive and land a few but a lot of the time I gradually get mobbed and shot down after getting a few kills, however its usually fun while it lasts.

Other methods to force an engagement include feinting attacks on a lower enemy or making a fake dive bombing run on a base to get a higher enemy to engage. My whole fighting style is to fight from an altitude disadvantage and force an overshoot. If I wanted to generate a score I'd fly something fast, join a big squad for protection and pick my way through a tour....and be bored stiff inside a week.

alot of times I will bring an egg and pop the dar, that almost always provokes a response, but alot of times when ya do that you get more of a response than your were looking for..

I typically come in ~3k and circle around, and when I see someone taking off I dive down pretty low and try and lead them away from the base/town a bit before turning and beginning the fight..

I just LOVE it when someone comes in and orbits and tries to vulch people taking off...    the best thing to do to those folks is...

spawn.. type .ef and wait.. as they come in blazing exit flight then IMMEDIATLY re-up, more often than not they will die in the ack and since your up and the nearest plane it will award you the kill...   granted it wont give you any perks or score and in the scheme of things means nothing, its a nice little jab at the goober who was trying to vulch ya.

Add going under 200mph and they wont run back to ack, they become like bugs with you as the light  :rock
