The 1 pass T-34 kill
« on: June 20, 2009, 08:32:19 PM »
For me the toughest target in my IL-2s is the T-34 tank. With them I try and substitute shot volume for placement, "actually i try and do that for all tanks and GVs". Anyway my 10 shot volley. Hope it helps with placement. The #1 shot is the 37mm rounds heading in. The "B" pics when the rounds strike. My basci strategy is to come in high from the rear and aim for the chasis top right next to the turret.

Shot 1
Shot 2
Shot 3
Shot 4
Shot 5
Shot 6
Shot 7
Shot 8
Shot 9

After #9 the tank blew up. Whether #9 was the real killing shot I'm not sure. Heres the slo-mo link on you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DawGzbkG2rk

Thanks guys. I'd say the first shot volley was perfect and the tank was doomed after that. You'll notice the red in the screen in shot#2A from the first volley? The placement of the first volley was about perfect and where you want to aim to take out this tank. I believe the T-34 is the toughest tank in the game to take out with aircraft cannon. The Panzers and Shermans you can pretty much overwhelm with cannon volume, but even they die quickly in this chassis top from the high rear angle attack profile. Many times I will even touch off a few volleys separate without even leaning heavy on the trigger. Most of all with the T-34.

This particular T-34 was pretty slick and had me chasing him around for awhiles taking that angle away from me by either hiding under trees or circling fast. Thats another thing about the T-34, that its fast. Now had he turned his main gun a little more right he would have obscured some of the prime attack area of the tank, "course he might have lost his own cannon too".

You'll notice in the 5A and 5B shots that shot on the right rear crew plate? The armor is so thick in that rear plate that it caused the 37mm cannon round to ricochet off. Had I placed that shot a bit higher I would have had that top rear of the chassis. :salute Hope this helped.

do you fly the pass zommed in htat far? if so, how do you adjust your controls to be somewhat smooth? i;ve tried that, but things "bounce" so much, from just  barely touching the stick.

thanks......

No I just zoomed in that far when I filmed from the film viewer using Fraps. In the game however I do zoom in quite a bit, just not that far. I use a lot of combat trim and speed control to keep the IL-2's approach smooth. If your bouncing like that then you probably arent trimmed very well. Try with combat trim. Heres about the zoom I use in the game.

nice pics, but why fire both MG+37mm? the  MG rounds are useless vs GVs and different trajectory, firing canon only when the sparks hit the tank  you can concentrate it better and  know you hit with AP rounds, same most of the K-4 pilots are firing canon only.

I think he was only firing the 37mms...looks a little like MG's because some shells are deflecting.

I knew anyway Mach.  ;)

I like a convergance of 400. If I was to do anything I'd make it even shorter. I believe your better off with 8 or 9 well placed volleys compared to 20 sprays. My eyes arent that good anymore anyways. GHI those are only cannon rounds I fire. There arent any MG rounds in the sequence. I have fire secondary mapped to my latch/2nd stage trigger of my joystick.

Yeah you have to have combat trim on cap. I have trim, and combat trim, mapped to my X-52 so I can quickly cycle to either.

what is it that turns it on? alt-x i think?

i know that making any trim adjustments will disable it, but i don't remember how to turn it on.......

I don't know what the default setting is because my combat trim is programed differently, however alt-x is auto climb so it's not that. Try ctrl-x
