That's the plane Hristo wants to see come to AH    A Dornier 33-something.

You are right, Leonid, it would be nice to try it out

Do 335 Pfeil. Never entered service, was more or less a prototype during last years of WW2.

With 2 engines in one fuselage, the drag was significantly low for a 2 engined plane. This and power loading resulted in very good speed and acceleration. The plane was armed with powerful MK 103 30mm cannons, and MG 151 15mm cowl guns. Also, I read that turn performance was actually better than expected (although it was not a Zeke by any means  ).

It is just another what-if mid/late 1945 plane, although prototypes flew in 1943, if I am not mistaken. And yes, I know it is ugly

?

The prototype Do335 V1 first flew on October 26, 1943.

Did you know the Do335A had an internal bomb capacity of 1000lbs?

Acceleration better than a Bf109K, good speed from the deck(360mph) to high alt(450mph+), big guns(esp. B model), good rollrate, turns better than a Fw190A-8...

The only bad thing about the Do 335 if it was in AH would be the rearward view. The real ones did have a mirror though...

Wouldn't especially want to try to bail out of one.

Didn't it have an ejection seat ?

Yes Hristo, it did have one of the first ejection seats. From the article I read, it had a few mishaps. In one instance, it ripped the arms off one of the test pilots.  It seemed that he grabbed the wrong handles or something.  OUCH, a nasty lesson.  I gotta look for the article again.

Yep, one of, if not the first with an ejection seat.  The rear prop and fins also were 'ejectable' for obvious reasons!  It had the range, speed and endurance to fly standing patrols that the 109's and 190's did not.  Man, the Germans had some scary stuff at the end!

Wow, wouldn't it be nice to try it in the what-if arena and be called a "Dornier-dweeb" ?

To put it against stuff like Bearcat, P 47M and such....surely will be nice.

Wait a second... something isn't right...

The Do335 thread has all been done before!

Go search for it.

Here's an interesting tidbit though - the Do335 had a reversible pitch front propellor. That could make it the fastest deccelerating plane too, I suppose!

Kyushu J7W1 Shinden.

I think only two prototypes were completed, and of those only one was flown for a total of 45 minutes...

there is many a tail of german test pilots loosing their arms ejecting from that bird (ugh)

seems the handles they pulled for rocket ejection was attached to the plane hence the loss of life and limb.
