LW Orange vs Blue
« on: June 22, 2009, 04:19:37 PM »
Just wondering why, when the majority of players fly in orange, later in the evening (roughly 10pm to 1pm) Orange is over full. Many nights I log on and find Orange with 270ish players and an arena cap at 200. Sometimes it gets corrected, sometimes it whittles Orange down to 200 or less. Yet at the same time Blue has 170ish players but a cap of 300 or 350. Since blue rarely is seems to be over 200 couldn't the extra spaces be allotted to Orange instead? It would be nice not to have to wait for Orange (if it is your preference) while blue is wide open.
Just to prevent any "well, moron just go into blue" responses I'll give a few of my reasons for prefering orange on a given night.

1. All my squaddies on orange

2. More people=more chances to kill or be killed

3. Perhaps I prefer its map to the one on blue.

I am no computer expert so if it for some reason it is just not feasable, ok, this is a wishlist though so it can't hurt to ask.

Poor, poor horse.  Just bury the damned thing.
Amazing you could actually recruit that much suck into one squad.

I am curious why people attribute color to an arena popularity.

Isnt mainly a function of which map is present?

It's really not the color that decides it, it's more about the numbers of people. I tend to go to the arena with more players, almost always orange.

My post was more in the nature of question, is it feasable? As I said, I'm not a computer expert.

For those who replied to me regarding the dead horse or giving a link to a time it was previously discussed try to be a little more productive. The time people like you spend busting everyone on these boards who doesn't search first or posts an idea you disagree with would be better spent giving a quick answer or if you don't know or if a post bothers you so much DON"T READ IT. If someone wants to get on here and wish for a B-29 again or a B-25 t/o from a CV, A-26s or anything else leave em be. I'm sure hitech can filter out the wheat from the chaff without your assistance. I will do a brief search before I post, but on this one I didn't find an answer as to why not? I'm sure you and some of your "platinum" friends appreciate your wit but I would wager the occasional poster such as myself wishes you would have a few manners. Why would you insist I read through 3+ pages minimum to find the answer when someone can say, hey hodag the reason it isn't done is....

Herd mentality. Non primetime orange seems to bump up to a 400 cap while prime time it goes lower to keep blue goin. Been flying blue more lately since more squaddies flying
. Normally can find better flight in blue during primetime and move to orange later.

hey hodag the reason it isn't done is....

The arena cap was put in place for a reason, and that reason has been discussed...and discussed...and discussed.  HiTech said it will not change anytime soon, as it's the best solution to date.

Short answer:
One arena gets to a threshold, cap kicks in so no more can enter.  Old cap might have been 300, 270 people are in and the new cap is 200 to force people into the other arena.  Other arena starts to fill up.  It hits a threshold and both caps are adjusted to allow more people in.

That's all I'm gonna say.  If you want more detail, then search for something like "arena cap reason" or similar.

In the meantime, go to another arena...you'll probably fight better fights or might just have fun despite not being with the herd.

As you can see it's right there straight from the horse's mouth, for you to see with your own eyes, better than taking anyone else's word for it.  The quickest way to answer your question is to point you directly to those posts.  The best way to resolve your searching not giving you what you searched for ... is to give you the posts you were searching for.  So... giving you what you asked and were looking for is busting you and bad manners and definitely not "a quick answer", gotcha.

I did speed dial my platinum and plutonium friends but for some reason they didn't instantly reply to back me up on this one.

I performed the death-defying feat of one-handedly copy-pasting and chicken-typing all that while starting dinner before starting the evening movie and hitting the sack.
