Ed and Johnny were a class act. I watched The Tonight Show faithfully from the days it was in New York until Leno took over. After that I switched to Letterman. He was always Johnny's pick to take his place. Notice that David never tried to fill Ed's role, but went with Paul as Doc Severensen. He knew those were big shoes to fill.
