Very cool Capt.

I've heard they're pretty smart and kind of escape artists,is that true??

And if so how do you keep him in his tank?

The tank has a huge heavy lid with a latch on it. He seems really smart, lucky for me he his still super young, maybe two months old three at the most.

What did you feed it?

a chunk of frozen minnow. I/m using a bamboo bbq skewer, but I had a cool feeding spear made out of clear acrylic and he took it to where I cant reach it.

Where can I get one?

I caught mine in the wild. I found this just now.

well I guess its name is Legs. As far as the tentacles go....well. I dont know i'm too scared to touch him, HE'LL BITE ME :x    There is not much info on Octopi out there so I dont know what species he is, I know its not a red octopus. As I find out more info I will let you know.
here is what i do know:

   1.  Their brain is donut shaped with their stomach passing through the centre.
   2. They have excellent senses, especially vision, smell and touch, but they are thought to be deaf.
   3. A large proportion of the nervous system is in the eight sucker covered arms.
   4. Octopus have three hearts and Blue blood.
   5. Males die shortly after breeding; the females tend the eggs until they hatch, after which they also die.
   6. Even if they never breed natural lifespan is only One or maybe Two years depending on the species.
   7. Octopus have no bone structure, as they are invertebrates, despite this they are incredibly strong.
   8. They are amazingly intelligent and require mental stimulation in captivity to prevent them from becoming bored.
   9. There are less than a handful of people in the world that keep them.
  10. They are best kept on their own, most tank mates make a tasty meal.
  11. Colour, texture and even body shape can be altered in an instant.
  12. They can squeeze through tiny gaps.
  13. Ink can be ejected to confuse would be predators.
  14. When swimming Octopus use jet propulsion, a bit like a jet ski.

I'm curious, ever have it ink in your tank?  If it inks in your tank is it bad for the other fish or your filtration system?

And while you've stated that you have a well sealed top on the tank... has the thought of watching/filming a pesky cat try to take on the octopus ever crossed your mind?  My bet is on Legs winning, especialy if he gets a bit bigger.  I know a few cats who I wouldn't personaly feel guilty about a "fish" biting them back for once.

And my best guess is that it's a Reef Octopus, perhaps a Caribbean Reef Octopus being caught around Miami, with those beutiful metalic green and blue colors it has on it.  If it's a male, it will have one leg that differs from the rest... no pun intended.  :D  Reefers are mostly nocturnal and the females will typicaly find a favorite hole/lair in the coral to claim a stake on (for when they find a male octopus to "sucker" into having kids with).  If it is a female and has staked claim to a favorite lair/hole in your coral, check it's lair regularly for the first three to four months.  Octos can keep a male's sperm in them and on standby for over 100 days as they search and seek out a prime egg-laying lair.  As far as you know she could of been the cutest octopus in the area that every male wanted to take out to the prom, got knocked up, and dropped off on your trap and was told "wait here sweety, I'll be right back".
