Political Correctness is the natural outgrowth of a society that has spent at least a generation or more in a state of relative financial and physical comfort.
It is what happens when children grow up knowing few real problems of their own, have little exposure to the hardships suffered by their parents and grandparents, have never known the direct effects of war, economic turmoil, social upheaval and political volatility.
They become overly sensitive by virtue of a burgeoning subconscious guilt, and the most primitive response is to start apologizing for the prosperity they have known since their first days out of the womb. They become reluctant to pass judgment, even when such judgment is rational and justified, and are always ready to step in and point fingers at those they perceive as oppressors--even when those oppressors' actions and traits are not just a reasonable response to external stimulus, but are, in fact, are remarkably consistent with the actions and traits of preceding generations which created the comfortable environment in which the PC were born and raised.
Put plainly, it is the softening of the backbone, and the departure from reality. It has nothing to do with correctness or politeness, and everything to do with a gradual atrophy of the heart and mind.
