Me262 White 19
« on: June 28, 2009, 08:20:00 PM »
Well I figure this is going to start some comments when I post it so before I wrap it up, I figured I would start the debate.

To me the front of the Nacelles are Metallic/Aluminum and the rear is Black or a dark color.

The body is dark green maybe RLM 71 or RLM 82/83 with a possible mixture of that green with a darker one in splotches or stripes.

I believe the upper colors wrap the fuselage maybe completely but at least well below the norm.

I agree on the aluminum/metallic.  Appears that way to me.  If so, that would look sweet.  What squadron?

You sure that one saw combat, considering it's sitting with a trainer?

Which picture?
Second and last. The 'S' designates an aircraft which was deemed structurally unsuitable to be sent into combat and was thus used as a trainer.

Looks like "White 19" from III/EJG 2.

I believe any 262 with a '19' was a trainer in and of itself.  Looks like a line of training rides too me.

EDIT:  This kit goes so far as to denote it with the "S".

Also this:

On 16 March 1945, Fw.Franz Holzinger of III./EJG2 (or possibly II./JG 7) made a 25 minute high altitude flight from Lechfeld. During the afternoon, or next day, he made a cross-country flight brtween 14:15 until 14:45. The aircraft's code was variously given as "White 2" and "White 19". Possibly flown by Heinz Bär. Captured at Lechfeld on 29th April 1945, coded "White 17" and "White S" for Schulmaschine (a trainer or schooling plane).

Note the considerably different scheme on the combat operational ride being towed by.

This is a Kommando Norwotny bird photographed at Achmer in late September 1944.  It has the same basic color scheme as White 8 which was Norwotny's personal plane but which supposedly had yellow fronted naceles.  It has no "S" marking in the photos.

It is difficult to say any 262 aircraft actually saw combat, especially a plane from this unit, with such a low combat sortie rate and losses to accidents.

Intersesting it is shown in the chapter about training.

It says "Inadequate Training".. which would be obvious during operations.  It is an operational aircraft in a combat unit in a combat theater.  Which is more than can be said for some other skins in the game currently.  Heck there is even photos of it, again more than can be said for some other skins, including those under work by others.

So is the standard for skins now that they have to be photographed in combat?   Puhlease.

A little misleading the heading on that page here is the first page of that chapter it is the page before the one I posted above. Training unit? I think not.

Ken, I am not looking to have it not skinned! Quite the opposite.

I am just looking at the history of the plane.  SKIN SKIN SKIN!!!

******************************

Lyric, no one said "Training Unit", whats with the tude?    These photo's are all wartime photo's.

The plane pictured as "White 19" is WNr.110956

Which finished the war as a "S" donated trainer, and was captured at Lech airfield, still wearing JG 7 colors on the tail and several different overpainted numbers and designations.

That's what interests me.  The history of the aircraft, who flew it, where, when and it's various dispostions.  Not if it is AH skin material.  Any skin by Fencer is always a great addition.

Damn ken, you have skinned 15 planes for my staffeln...I am surprised you would think I was trying to dis one of your projects.

Well it may have been painted with an S at some point in the future at this point in time it is not. So I would say they tried it out maybe in combat maybe not the likely hood of knowing for sure would be near impossible to know. You can only go with what is in the picture on hand.
