The issues are pretty simple, what motherboard and what PS are being used. The CPU is about $110 or so....

So yes with a cheap PS and MB I can beat that price OS included by $100 or more. The VC is $90...

you can build a good box OS included for $700. I have no idea what MB or PS the system above uses. If we assume low end stuff then its not a bargain.

If I was going to buy that Crysis PC, I would definitely get more ram and an I7 chip.

Then again, I wouldn't buy it. I would just give TilDeath a call. His machines have become a well known commodity in here and run beta without breaking a sweat.

My big problem with he Crysis PC is which power supply.



Addendum: That's a Micro ATX board that supports 4 gig memory max. Therefore if you ever upgraded to a 64bit OS you would be limited. Not sure of any other limits. I'm sure someone will chime in.

Took a little guessing from a blurred name, but found the PSU.  Made by 'Raptor', 500W with 2x 12V rails, I have never heard of this company, but I am still fairly new to some of this.  I only trust PC P&C, OCZ and SeaSonic.

A cheap System, can be made that runs very well.  I plan on upgrading my CPU/motherboard sometime at the end of the year, and the price is still very acceptable.
Total: 595$ without an OS.  I will know how the system runs later today sometime when new GPU (260 replacing my dead-ish 7900) arrives hopefully.
With my current 7900 (before it got to the deathbed) ran AH (beta included) at 9/10 full settings with 50+ FR.

Humble, I'd never ever ever build a system with a $22 PSU.  Shame on you.

 Off the shelf gaming computers will never be competitive with a computer you can build yourself. They make decisions on a cost basis alone. When you build your own, you build to get the best performance per dollar. Don't know how to build one? Ask around one of your friends probably does. It ain't rocket science.

DOH!  I missed that part. I was just looking for an inexpensive PC P&C.  :-/

The power supplies I have access to at the moment are all less than (or at most) 18amps on the +12v rail/s.  As Tim the Toolman says "I guess I'm gonna need more power" since even that "low power" 9600GT wants 18amps.

There are some very nice Seasonic options in that price range.  Do a power search on 80+ certified retail Seasonics and you'll find them.
