Fairey Firefly

OK, I  didn't see any examples of this any earlier then november 2008 and it was only in 1 or 2 wishlist threads, one migh have mentioned the V.C. firefly instead.


I want the Fairly Firefly. It was a British carrier born attacker, and If I remember correctly, we only have 1 british carrier born plane. I think this would give some balance to the carrier plane set, and would be a cross between a fighter and a dive bomber. It wasn't an air superiority aircraft, but it wasn't a target with wings either. I think it would get a good bit of use and could be a succesful aircraft.

It was armed with 4 20mm cannons so it packs a real punch.
It could carry 2 1000lb bombs under it's wings.
Had provisions to carry 8 60lb air to surface explosive rockets.
And if I'm reading this correctly then other options included 16 60lb rockets OR 2 1,000lb rockets
Had a 2,250 hp Rolls-Royce Griffon 74 V12 engine.
Max speed was 386 mph.
Cruise speed: 220mph
Range: 1,300miles.
Celing: 28,400.
Empty weight: 9,674lbs   Max takeoff weight: 16,096lbs.
Wingspan: 41' 2"
Length: 37' 11"
Height: 14' 4"

the firefly is pretty cool, had some RL combat success from what I remember too....fact check? Another brit carrier piece would be welcome....sea mossie, hurricane, etc but who knows except the HTC fellas ....so many planes so little time.

Well first off, the other post is not that big, If it was like.....oh say......40 posts then I would wait longer, I say the rule of thumb is 2 pages and below 6 months is pretty safe.

And I bet if you use the search on stuff like firefly, b29,  buffalo, or Fw200, or whatever you want to post and if that is so then if you think that plane or thread is worthy of a bump then we wouldn't have 2 million threads we have now.

The point is that if you're going to start a thread on a topic that was already covered, it should at least add something new to the topic.  Posting a laundry list of specs that anyone can see for themselves by googling or wikiing "fairey firefly" isn't going to do much.   At the very least you could do some kind of pictorial or synthesize something from all the publicly available info on the Firefly, that really grabbed AH players' interest for the prospect of a Firefly in the game.

Well since somebody started another one let me point out that we still have exactly one CV airplane representing a country that was a huge, and cutting edge, CV and aerospace presence in the war. Far more then, say, the Japanese. At least technology wise. Even number-wise, counting escort CVs, the Royal Navy had a huge carrier presence in three different oceans.

You'll notice almost all the large RN CVs saw extensive action and almost all took hits. The armored decks, I think, ended up haunting them. But still they were in the teeth of it fighting it out.

I realize the RAF, and the industry it controlled, was notoriously cheap when it came to developing CV born aircraft. But with the FireFly I think we have a competative design that would fit in well in the game.
