David McCambell Books
« on: June 30, 2009, 05:18:47 PM »
Anyone know of any good biographys/autobiography's (preferably auto's) about David McCambell? So far I've read "Thunderbolt", by RS Johnson, "Aces High: The saga of Bong and McGuire" by Bill Yenne, and have just ordered "Baa Baa Black Sheep" by Pappy Boyington. When I get done with that I would like to get a book on Dave McCambell, and maybe even one on Joe Foss. Thanks in advance. :salute

I still have a paperback of "McCampbell's Heroes" by Edwin P. Hoyt.    Shouldn't be more than a couple bucks on Amazon.

I've read probably 10 times from 1985 (when I was 12) to a couple of years ago.   It is a good read for the Squadron (VF-15).   It's more than worth a couple of bucks.

It might help to find the book if I could spell McCampbell* correctly. ;)

I have "McCampbell's HEROES" in hardcover.  Bought it many years ago.  Hell yes its worth the read.  I've read it a dozen times at least.

I'm happy you liked the book by Bill Yenne about Bong and McGuire. I sure enjoyed it.

I did. Read it in 4 days. Like I told you before, my only complaint would be the lack of detail of each kill, but that is the what you're gonna get in bio's. That is why I prefer Autobiographies.  :salute
