How often do you get that close to a friendly aircraft (other than take-off and landing obviously)? Adding a delay or certain areas where collisions are off seem 1) complicated 2) unnecessary extra. Although I wouldn't mind seeing friendly collisions in flight, I feel it's a tiny little detail that would just complicate the game way more than it's worth.
At times you can have a plane warp 3k ahead or behind. So in that example, you don't even need to be flying tight. A really poor connection could have somebody warp so many times in an instant that it could conceivably wipe out a whole squadron.
