the 4870 whether you get a 512 meg or 1 gb  version is well more than enough for Aces High 2 or the new beta/patch version soon to be released.......

you should make sure you have enough CPU & PSU though to support the cards abilities........

my setup runs both AcesHigh & the new Beta maxed out at the refresh rate of my LCD Monitor, using 1280x1024 screen res, 1024 textures & hires texture package.......no stutters or slow downs

NOTE- you have to keep whatever system you use lean & mean , meaning control the amount of prgrams & processes you have running in the background on a continous basis........some people will find they are running 40 or 50 even 60 processes on their Windows XP OS.......and then wonder why their High Dollar PC build is not working or playing a game efficiently........

I have a 4870 512mb + Intel E8500 (overclocked to 4.0Ghz) combo on my other gaming box and it pushes 100-200 fps at 1920x1200 everything maxed with the latest patch.

I have a 4850 512mb with an e8400 which pushes ah2 very well

4850 seems to work fine without CCC just install drivers.

One thing to note: If you don't already have a PCIe x16 2.0 slot, you may not be able to even run this card.

The 2.0 is important. It allows much more bandwidth to and from the card. I believe many 1.1 slots will support it electronically, but will bottleneck its performance noticably. [EDIT: I checked a webpage I had bookmarked, said 1.0/1.0a probably don't support it]

You need a new motherboard to handle the newer cards. You may already have one, but I wanted to point that out.

ATI makes no comment about 1.0 or 2.0 requirement. In fact no card to date should require 2.0.

I don't know if ATI is different from NVidia in this area, but a GTX 260 runs dang near flawlessly in a PCI-E x16 1.0.

That's because current generation graphics card can't even come close to saturate x16 PCI-E 1.0.

And no, not all PCI 1.0 slots will take 2.0 cards. I did some checking because I wanted to upgrade my vid card about a year ago and found I could not run it. If PCI-E 2.0 would be a requirement to run a card the manufacturer would state it clearly. I see no such comment on ATI webpage.
