After numerous failing attempts at sinking CV's "hazed" and I humbled ourselves and finally read the instruction.  

"Added a torpedo loadout option on the Ju 88.  These torpedos are faster but have a
shorter range (2200 yards) than the Mk 13 torpedo.  The maximum drop parameters on
these torpedos are 210 MPH at 390 feet."

But it seems practice is required too because the parametes for successful torpedo drop varies.

Exibit A

Altitude,     Speed,      GO/NOGO

020 feet,     200 MPH,     GO

100 feet,     190 MPH,     GO

150 feet,     190 MPH,    NOGO

200 feet,     190 MPH,    GO (hazed), NOGO 1st attempt, GO 2nd attempt (BigJoe)

250 feet,     200 MPH,     GO

270 feet,     200 MPH,     NOGO

280 feet,     190 MPH,     NOGO

290 feet,     200 MPH,     NOGO

300 feet,     190 MPH,     NOGO

300 feet,     200 MPH,     NOGO

Scored a hit on a ditched aircraft when dropped at a range of 2.2.

But PeeWee what does this all mean?    I - DON'T - KNOW!!!

recommend ya goto the TA and practice as with all LW machines it takes skill to fly'em and get kills!    the conspiracy continues

since this test i have, for the sake of definate torpedo drop, always dropped at 26-28 manifold 180-190mph at 100 ft.This is dangerous but getting torps running is the main concern.
were they like this? anyone got any info on what these things were like?  
I have to trust HTC is not balancing a allied 1 torp TBM with axis 2xtorp JU88 by making ju88's torps so hard!,and i hope this is acuraccy, not gameplay concessions.

 I am looking,but my torp data is for navy weapons and i cant nail down the luftwaffe torp..HTC seldom screw's the puppy on this stuff though...I am a little surprised that it has a shorter range than the US torp.

Here is some info I found. These are navy torpedos so I'm not sure if it corresponds to air force torpedos. As I had always understood they were the same. I know one thing, if they put a Japanese torpedo plane on here you will be able to drop farther away. Even on their highest speed setting the IJN torpedos will travel 1/3 farther than the others on their high speed setting. I'm guessing that all are torpedos are set for the high speed short range setting on AH.

Royal Navy:
21" MK IX Speed 41/35 knots Range 11000/15000 yards.

Kriegmarine:
21" G7A T1 Speed 44/40/30 knots Range 6560/8750/15300 yards.

US Navy:
21" Mk 15 Speed 45/33/27 knots Range 6000/10000/15000 yards.

IJN:
24" Long Lance Speed 45/35/22 knots Range 21900/35000/43700 yards.

21" 6th year Speed 36/32/26 knots Range 7650/10900/16400 yards.

German F5B Aircraft Torpedo:

Fast speed:2,200 yards (2,000 m) / 40 knots
Slow speed:6,560 yards (6,000 m) / 24 knots

Max Drop speed was 183Knots at 390ft.


It sure would be nice to have the longer range. They are virtually worthless at the fast speed, because its next to impossible to get close enough for a shot.

In fact it would be nicer to have a decent ack covering the fleet instead of the Terminator Fire Barrage we have now. Its not next to impossible to get close, it is completely IMPOSSIBLE, without the "next to".

Looks like the aircraft torpedo is different then the navy (ship) torpedo. I got to thinking about it and I remember a documentary that talked about how the Japanese made a special shallow water torpedo for the attack on Pearl Harbor. So from your data and what I remember the aircraft torpedos aren't the same as the ship torpedos.

Nope. Japanese added wooden "wings" to the torpedoes so they wont dive too deep and hit the bottom. That was all the modification.

What they indeed did was to get 14' AP rounds,and add wings to them. ET voila! 800Kg glide bomb!

BTW and AFAIK, the JApanese aerial torpedo wasnt the Type 91 "Long Lance", but the Type 95, the same they used in the submarines.

The american Mark15 was bassically the same as the ship and submarine Mark13.

Maverick, the Ju-88 torp in AH is the F5B set for the fast speed (2,200yds at 40knots).I'd like to see the slow speed used to increase the range. Or, they could give us the F5W, which was an Italian torp adopted by the Germans. It had a range of 3,300yds at 40 knots.
